Transmission 2 Choices?

I believe if you get the F-250 gasser you'll get the new TorqueShift-G [6R100G] transmission. If you get the F-250 diesel you'll get the 6R140 transmission. If you get the F-350 gasser you'll get the 6R140 transmission, same as the diesel. So in summary the TorqueShift-G transmission is unique to the F-250 gasser only and I don't think you can get the 6R140 in the gas version. I think the jury is still out on the new TorqueShift-G transmission but it is one smooth shifting tranny with a torque rating of 1000lbs from what I've read.

I wanted a gasser and bought the F250 vs the F350 because I wanted the "G" transmission to go with the gasser. Also got the 4.30 gear set. Awesome combination. Pulls our 10.5K 5er very nicely. Payload 3,109.
Haven't experienced a 6R140 with a gasser but the G is smooth and super responsive. Love it.
I live in a rural area. In everyday driving, I'm getting mid 14's mpg. On freeway at 65 to 70 mph, low 15's. I don't think the 4.30s are hurting mileage much if anything. I expect these numbers to go up a bit once winter loses its bite here. Cold weather really does makes a difference in mileage on these trucks.

I have no experience with the "G" since I wanted a 350 for payload and I wanted the 6R140 for reliability and longevity. I'm happy with it and have zero complaints. Shifts smooth to me and puts the power to the ground. Tows our 10K trailer easy as well. Oregon doesn't penalize you on GVWR so there is no reason to not get all of the truck you can so a 250 wasn't on my radar screen. I live out in "the sticks", two miles off the pavement. Dragging the boat or the trailer up and down the mountain is a slow and low gear crawl hence the desire for the most HD tranny I could get. The "G" is a beefed up 150 tranny and while I'm sure it's fine, that didn't give me warm fuzzys since the 6R140 has been pretty bulletproof. my 2 cents....

That’s pretty good payload. Which trim package? And is it 4x4?

We dont get penalized either and I wanted the strongest proven set up so I went with the F350. May not be as efficient but it just plain works and id very HD.

That sounds like great mileage so far! My 250/4.30 is due in April and I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it does that well. On a scale from teenager to grandpa, how aggressive would you say you are with the pedal? I’d put myself about three quarters of the way to grandpa!

My truck should be here any day. The payload sticker is the first thing I’ll check. It’s an F250 Lariat Ultimate CCSB, 4x4, 4.30, 5th wheel prep with 20” wheels and chrome package. I was hoping for 3,000 lbs. it sounds like that is quite possible.

Which ever tranny is used, the temps being reported sure seem hot. Will likely start planning some auxiliary cooling capacity to keep those temps at around 170*F on the hottest days in August in S TX. Gets blistering hot.
On my '06 dodge with the 48RH I had built by Jeff Garmon in Georgia I went with an external hydraulic oil filter, -10AN lines, exchanger delete on the block, and a Setrab 60 row stacked plate cooler. I have yet to see temps over 170* on the hottest summer days even towing my fifth wheel. Tranny rated for 1000 HP and 2000 ft/lbs. On tow tune turning just under 500 hp, 1020 ft/lbs. Billet input and tail shafts, stock middle.
Anyways will likely go with the F350 and 6.2 with 4.30 axles. Gotta keep that 5.9 though. Listening to twin Garretts spool up is just magical. 3782 secondary over 4202 primary, Steed manifold.
