F600 engine fix or swap question
66 f600 4x4
A couple years back i bought a 66 f600 4x4. got it running, and ended up having to replace the radiator. No big deal. With the intention of flushing the cooling system and actually putting coolant in it, i just filled with water. Well... days turned into weeks, weeks to months and well finally got back to its about 4 years later... you can probably already figure the problem I have, coolant in the oil... so here's my dilemma. I BELIEVE it has a 352 in it, is that engine worth trying to fix? Does it have much aftrrmarket/performance? (Planning on being a mud truck) or?! I have a 460, tranny and t-case i was thinking of maybe putting in it. And if I go that route, do they have engine mounts for that swap? Because, correct me if I'm wrong they didn't put 429/460 in those years. And also, truck currently has a Rockwell divorced t-case. How hard would that be to hook to the auto trans I have, with the 460?
Thanks in advance

Today, Ford's FE engine family (the 352 is a member) enjoys an enormous range of possibilities to rebuild, However, you likely have a member of the FT family. These engines are similar and yet different in some key areas. They were good work horses in their day and can still be rebuilt albeit they don't have quite as large of opportunity as the FE. A good place to start is to identify for certain which engine you have.
Swapping in a 385 engine (like the 460) or any other engine will require a different bellhousing than the FE or FT.
As an aside, the FT cranks are forged and some guys have turned them into high performance cranks for the FE. That idea isn't as popular anymore since we now have forged stroker cranks available for the FE.
IMO, I'd see if what you have is rebuild able...especially if it's an FT. They're good motors for their purpose and it's an easier path than swapping engines families.

and I'm literally like 10 min from Canada, and we've had some pretty cold winters since then. I'm pretty much guessing the block is toast, only reason I'm wondering tho, is that it didn't push a freeze plug out.

IMHO, If you plan to restore the truck by all means go find another FE/FT engine and bolt it in. But if you just want to build a truck to go play in the mud put in a 460 and a C6.

What are commonly referred to as freeze plugs aren't there for that reason at all. They are actually core plugs that are there to remove the casting sand from the block. They won't help at all if it freezes even though one or two might be pushed out you can bet it cracked the block somewhere.
