6.2 Muffler Delete Opinions

I have searched through all the threads I could find regarding a 6.2L muffler delete. For those of you that have done the delete, are you still happy? How is the drone at highway speeds?

I have only been able to find 2 videos on YouTube from an FTE member, and from what I can tell it sounds pretty good.

I haven't deleted, but I am in love with how quiet it is going down the road and can't imagine trying to make it louder. However, I also own a street car with twins and fender exits and wouldn't have *that* any other way either!

Coming from a Wrangler JKU with a 3.8L I might be getting a little too excited about having a V8 again and wanting to hear it more.

I love the delete on my 6.2. Sounds just like stock but with maybe 15% more sound. Just a little bit more drone but I think it's the perfect amount. Doesn't bother me when towing at higher rpm for several hours either. Even after a year with the muffler delete I still remote start the truck nearly every time I walk up to it just so I could hear the bark of the exhaust when she fires up

Well sir, I had a 6.2 and it had an aftermarket exhaust.........Banks I think.......driving empty it was fine, pulling the 5er to the lake, or zeven for a half day it was fine. But pulling for and extended road trip (2-3 weeks) it got damn old listening to the noise!
This was one factor to convince me to trade it for a 6.7 PSD!

Thank you for the feedback. Is your delete muffler only, or one of the resonators as well?

Did you have a muffler shop scab in a straight pipe? The shop I called said it would be cheapest if I provided a section of 3.5in stainless that they would use in place of the muffler.

I did just the muffler delete. The resonators are still in tact on the truck. I had a muffler shop do it for me I believe it was 60 bucks give or take out the door and took about 30 minutes. I did it about a year ago, Truck still sounds great. It's such an easily reversible modification that it's very worth it to at least give it a try imo.

A straight pipe was put in its place. Is memory serves the inlet and exit to the muffler are slightly different diameter, can't remember what the shop did to accommodate for that but it was easy.

^^^ +1 for that. Easily reversible in case you don't like it. Let that 6.2L breathe!

Just ordered a stainless 3.5in straight pipe for the delete. I will post a video when complete.

Can you do a "before and after video"? That would be great.

Best $60 I've spent, and like others have said, if you don't like it save your muffler and you can always put it back on. I saved mine but I have no intentions of putting it back on. I left the 2 resonators on so it's really not that loud and doesn't drone very bad at all.

“A straight pipe was put in its place. Is memory serves the inlet and exit to the muffler are slightly different diameter, can't remember what the shop did to accommodate for that but it was easy.”

The pipe inlet on the muffler is 3" and 3.5" outlet. They flanged the pipe on each end and welded it in place on mine.

Thanks for the info Blue6.2. The shop I am working with plans on doing the same thing (flanged/welded).

I will definitely post some before and after videos.

Recorded a quick video last night. Did not turn out well. I will do a better job on the videos after I have the muffler deleted tomorrow.
