Wait till October to Buy?

Hi Folks,
Im getting the itch to get me a new one....been since 1995.
I want to get 3.5 ecoboost F150 XLT with the tow package, 4x4, 6.5 bed.

Most folks have convinced me that the Ecoboost 3.5 will easily pull my 6K, 25 ft travel trailer.
Unless that Powerstroke 3.0 Diesel catches rave reviews I will probably stick with the 3.5 ecoboost.

My question is: Is it better to wait towards the end of the year ( around oct-nov) to possibly nab a better discount?

I have been out of the "new vehicle buying experience" since 1995 when I bought my Ranger and it seemed I stumbled into a better year end discount when I bought it in November of that year. Im just wondering if it still holds true if the year end discounts are better?

I think this is Ford truck month, which is supposed to be a great time to buy.

I don’t know Ford pricing very well, so maybe someone else can offer better insight. However, I’ve heard FTM is one of the better times. I’d think you’d get a better deal on an 18 once they are pushing the 19s. If you could find what you want in a 17 right now, I bet you could get a great deal on it.

You might very well get a better deal later after the new model year has started. However, if you want that 6.5' bed with a crew cab, you may find it a rare beast.

Yikes! So that cooks down to two possible scenarios:
1. Keep scouring local dealers for a Super crew cab and the 6.5 bed and hope I find it and ( groan) grab it with whatever haggling and or discounts I can get
-or-
2. Order it the way I want it and probably have little to no discount whatsoever.

If I have to do Option 2, how late in the year can I order a 2018 model?

I guess it dont matter if I order it now or later; its very unlikely I could get a decent price on the vehicle since they know its a "special order" and they know they have me over the barrel.

Special order will still get you all applicable rebates. Join an organization that allows X plan pricing if you don't want to haggle. That way you will get X plan plus rebates without playing the pricing game.

Before you order, have your dealer look on the computer and find one equipped the way you want it, then see if they can do a dealer trade on it.

I don't know where you live, but around here every dealer has at least a couple 6.5' bed SuperCrews from King Ranch down to XL. I would think that if you want a Platinum or Limited with the 6.5' bed that it would need to be ordered.

Well My dealer couldn't find a Lariat Screw with a 6.5 bed in the state. the 8th of Feb. when we worked up my order. She found 2 XLTs neither in a color I liked and I gave her 3 to look for Lighting Blue, Ruby Red or Magma. I really didn't want an XLT anyway.

Next time, since you are in Texas, try Holiday Ford in Whitesboro. They keep a lot of F150 super crews with the 6.5’ bed. It’s where I bought mine. They list good prices online.

Look at Grande Ford in San Antonio. They usually have a Lariat or KR 6.5’ bed in stock.

I've had great success buying vehicles during Ford's Independence Day sales which will last part of June and most of July.

You will always have end of the year discounts and slightly better deals/financing offers from the manufacturer because they`re trying to clear out the current years inventory to make room for the new years inventory but those offers won`t be drastically different than those during the year.

With that being said, some but not all new vehicle buyers will be tempted to wait of even purchase the new year model and will end up spending more because of the perception.

I`d say if you can find a great deal now or during the year, take advantage of it and enjoy your new truck.

October will be well into the 2019 model year. The number of 2018 vehicles left on the lot will be somewhat limited by then. The 3.0l diesel engine might not be offered on the XLT model unless you are a fleet buyer. For 2018 the 3.0l is only available on the Lariat and above.

The timing of buying a new vehicle is as important as any other factor in my opinion. A dealership may be willing to give you more of a discount than normal if you happen to be "looking" at the end of the month and they need a sale to make their quota and/or bonus. It's all about numbers and timing to them. I've seen them make a steep discount because of that very thing. The longer you wait of course, the less to pick from if you are talking about October time frame, as they won't be making 18s any more and of course, there are only so many available. I came to find out it may be better to buy a "used" 17 or 18 with low miles on it, still under warranty and can still purchase an extended warranty. If what you want isn't available, then obviously you have to be willing to reevaluate what you want. I am sure you know, you can go on the Ford website and search all vehicles with your parameters within a selected mile radius.

Don't close your eyes to the 2.7 EcoBoost which will also easily tow that trailer.

Towing

Don't close your eyes on the 2.7 I drove them all and I'm a Motor Head This Engine impressed me the Most
Allot of People have Bad Mouthed this Engine without knowing all of the Facts.
The Upper Engine Block and Cylinders are made of Compacted Graphite Iron or (CGI) for Strength and durability.
Same Iron used in the 6.7l Power Stroke Diesel, and don't forget Port and Direct Injection.
