Head rebuild kit

I'm looking for a rebuild kit for my 94 f150 with 300 straight 6. Can't seem to find one. Does it exist? Would I be better off buying all the parts individually or even getting a new or already rebuilt head? Thanks.

Valves, springs, retainers, valve stem seals rocker arms... Basically everything to make it like new again. Will most likely have a machine shop assemble it for me when I take it to get resurfaced.

Just let the machine shop provide the parts, other than maybe the rockers. While some repair facilitys will tolerate customers bringing their own parts, it is not unlike bringing your own ham and eggs to a restaurant and asking them to cook them for you.

It is different, if, say, a place wanted to charge $35 per egg. Mark-ups can be excessive sometimes, which is why they don't want your new dealer marked parts that you got for half the price of their Rockauto Movotech part. It's all about $$$!!

I understand what you're saying though, which is why I do literally everything in my ability myself. My expectation of them is moot in that case.

I'd at least get a quote from the machine shop. Every shop I've dealt with has been very reasonable.

That's probably the best deal honestly, unless you wanted to port your head while it's disassembled.

Thanks guys for all the replies, will check on the parts prices at the machine shop. Would be easier than tracking them down online anyways.

Yeah I'm looking to get more flow in the top end it seems a little restricted... I feel like the truck should be able to go a little faster than 65 uphill. I know the 300 is all low end but 65 uphill in 4th gear... Somethings wrong. Ill have them clean the intake out as well and probably the block since I'm pulling the motor anyways.

Well, 65 uphill is relative. There are a couple hills aroumd here that I can't do 50 up unless I drop from 5th to 3rd and that's if I'm already doing 50.

It all depends on the grade of the hill.
And then, you get into gearing. If your truck has a 2.73 or 3.08 gear rebuilding the head probably won't help much. You should do a cylinder leakdown and compression test. If those come back okay, then the engine is most likely not the issue.

Sorry I should've gave a little background first, the head gasket actually is blown which is why I'm doing all of this work... And the truck used to be able to pull that same hill 75 in 4th. I'm really hoping rebuilding the top end will give me the power I used to have.

yes, there are hills and then there are hills.
it looks like you have an extended cab/long box/4wd and a rear end of unknown ratio. i am not sure i would expect much more than 65 up any decent hill with a stock 4.9 litre pulling it.

... bad timing ... having just read your last post, i agree with the others that i would let the machine shop buy the parts. they get a huge discount so it usually winds up not costing any more and saves some potential headaches.

Ahhhh ok well a know bad head gasket is a good reason for a top end job.... If you are just doing head work make sure you get the right head gasket. Do Not go thicker than factory, this will throw the quench distance off and can cause detonation.
