More I drive my 2.7 ecoboost the better I like it!
In a year and nearly 15k of driving my 2017 F150 STX Crew 4WD with the much maligned 2.7 ecoboost, all I have to say is, this is one incredible lil engine. Pulls like a freight train, is quiet and relaxed at highway speeds, will leave 5.3’s and 5.7’s at stoplights and actually gets a little better fuel economy than my old 2015 Tacoma got. Ain’t saying this is a better engine than the V8’s, I’m just saying these engines a very impressive! Oil changes ain’t to bad to do, just remember and be ready for the torrent of oil that comes out when you pull the drain plug. Can’t think of one thing I don’t like about the way this engine runs. Most the people that talk crap about this engine, have never driven one, sure they don’t sound as good as a big V8, their small displacement is shocking, considering not to long ago a 302 was considered a small engine. I truly love this engine so far, I’m hoping for years and years of good service. Not to long ago a young kid pulled up beside me, 5.3 regular cab Chevy, every Realtree accessory Walmart carried on her, he yelled hows that Furd run, I smiled said son it’s just a lil bitty V6 about half the size of your V8, snuck my right hand up to shifter, then clicked the button twice to Sport mode the start stop is deactivated in Sport, guess he thought this was a challenge and when the light changed we got on them, old man in a tiny V6 just plain out spanked him to 60 mpg, then he ran the next light, guess he didn’t want to discuss how this Furd run any further! Don’t do that to often, to old and pretty for prison, but man that was sweet!

Oh man, I didn't realize the 2.7EB was maligned at all. I had a loaner 2018 with the 2.7, I thought it performed very well. I was also pleased with the fuel mileage.
I'm one of those guys that doesn't really care what anyone else buys, I figure they are all good engines and that folks oughta just pick what they think will suit them the best. Enjoy.

King I might have over elaborated a tad, but lots of people seem to dislike the 2.7 ecoboost. I agree with you totally about what ever floats your boat, my Milege for the mountains of WV is always well I’ve 19 mpg, never got that out of my old Tacoma, which was a great lil truck mechanically, just you need younger bones to drive a Tacoma, best you to death:

Ricky Coyotes are nice engines, run forever and do sound so good, on a trip recently from Dallas back home to WV, got behind a new Raptor, don’t think it was stock exhaust on her, but honestly it didn’t sound like a 80k truck should sound, not sure you can get any v6 to sound good, even videos of the new Ford GT with the 3.5, for 450 grand I would want a great sound! At my age all I want is Rush Limbaugh on my radio, a fresh dip of snuff and s good hot cup of coffee, love how quiet my Ford is!

I'm in your camp. What an amazing little engine. I decided to drive all three when I was looking for a truck and, while all three impressed, this little engine ended up being the perfect little beast for me at this particular time.
I had a similar situation as you a few weeks ago. I was at a stop light and a Hemi Challenger was beside me. There was a left turn out onto the highway and I was in the outside lane. I got the truck moving up the road a little faster than I intended to so I thought I better let off the gas a little. Next thing I hear (thanks to my quiet little engine) was that Hemi chugging up the road giving everything it had to catch me. Sounded like the pistons were going to go thru the hood. That felt good. Had I kept on it, I really doubt he would have caught me, at least for a while. My wife was with me and we both had a good laugh out of the guy who just couldn't let a truck beat him! I really don't care how my truck sounds (even though the V8 does sound sweet) and in the end, I would own any of them. What matters to me is that it gets the job done, and this little engine does. I've never towed with anything like it.

I ended up with a 14 3.5 Ecoboost as my towing tips out a bit more than what the 2.7 was rated for, but when I drove a '17 2.7 Ecoboost I was very impressed.
I would go as far as saying I have driven and used every engine Ford has put in a truck since 1980 except the 6.7 turbo diesel and a few of their baseline v6's, the 2.7 Ecoboost is the most impressive to me of them all as well as any GM engine I've driven in a truck.

Performance!!!
I too Love my 2.7l I a m stunned at the performance, I still haven't unleased all the power and torque, Been easy on it for the first 2,000 miles but I've run it through all of its paces, Take a good Look at the Chrome Tail pipe and the Lack of Soot that doesn't collect on the tail pipe because of i know the Port and direct Injection the Fuel being Sprayed on the Intake valve is a big Plus for keeping things clean in the Valve Train!!!

In case you know someone who wants their V6 to sound good take a look at these aftermarket exhausts that make the 2.7 sound bigger than it really is plus it gives us the dual exhaust that you don't get until you get into the expensive F150s.
