Exhaust Brake

Sorry if this has been covered before, Is it recommended by Ford to run the Exhaust Brake at all times except during icy, snowy conditions. I am coming from a 2015 Ram 6.7 and Cummins recommended running it all the time to keep the turbo vanes from gumming up.

I don't know if it's a Ford recommendation, but I run mine on all the time when conditions are acceptable.

I loved the feel of the Exhaust brake on "Full" in the Cummins. The Ford is way different as you cant really hear/feel it engaging like the Cummins. The Ford really downshifts in the trans like it is in tow/haul when the exhaust brake is engaged in full. Is this normal behavior for the Power Stroke?

I use mine about 50% of the time. Agreed, its definitely not as aggressive as the Dodge. Watch your boost gauge...you'll see it working.

I run mine when I can. I ran mine all the time when I had my Ram and never questioned whether it was working or not since it was aggressive and could hear it. I am still getting use to my Ford Exhaust Brake. Until I had read about watching the boost gauge, I was concerned it was not working. When over 1500 rpm's, it becomes more noticeable, still different though.

i use mine all the time. wish there was a way to have it on all the time, and turn off when not needed. but haven't figured that one out yet.

Turn ignition to RUN (DO NOT START)
Press Exhaust Brake button
Press OK on steering wheel
Turn truck off

This will turn the exhaust brake on when starting. Some say that it will only do it so many times on start up then you have to repeat. Don't know how many times it will hold it or will it stay on until you turn it back off.

Did you try not putting your foot on brake and hit start button?

yeah, essentially turning truck on without starting it.
here was my sequence. push button (no brake), wait til everything is turned on, turn on exhaust brake, press ok, push button to turn off truck.
i will certainly try it again though.

Can you use the exhaust brake and tow/ haul simultaneously? I have yet to use the exhaust brake, but after reading tee threads, I'm missing out when towing.

When y’all say, “all the time”, are you talking about just when towing or literally ALL THE TIME?

Yes, I use it all the time, yes, you can add tow/haul, whenever you want, don't have to be towing. You can also use manual mode on the transmission or delete gears and force downshifts within the ability to increase the revs. The more revs, the more hold back, the more load, the more effective the engine brake is. In fact the hold back at low revs isn't very noticeable, but once you increase them it is.
