The guy at the local battery place said the AGM is rated closer to 1200 cca even though they say 750. Not sure if that is true.

The AGM's are about $35/battery more than lead acid. They have the same 36 month warranty.

What to do??

This one is all opinions and has been discussed to death. I go Costco for 850CCA Interstates.

I read through that thread. Thank you though. Those are just too expensive for me to justify.

 

We don't have Costco. I have always run 850cca as well, but if the 750 cca AGM is actually closer to 1200 cca like the guy said, I can get them for under $200

 

Personally I would make him show me the load test showing 1200 cranking amps let alone the Cold cranking amps. I find his statement hard to believe. I have had the regular lead acid 830 CCA batteries for 3 years now with no problems.

There is a small local mom and pop shop that has been there forever and they get unbranded Johnson Control batteries and put there own sticker on it and sell them for $80 each. 3 year warranty is up but still going strong.

Do you have the manufacturer and model you can post for us of the batteries. I bought my first ever set of AGM's a couple months ago. They were pricey as hell, but I am hoping that I get 10+ years out of them. Even if I get 6+ years out of them they will have paid for themselves in warranty replacements and time/effort to replace them.

If I were you (based on the information we have) I would go with the AGM batteries.

 

I purchased a set of Motorcraft 850/1000 batteries from O'Reilly, Sunday (1/14/18).

 

I have the advance auto Duralast gold. Really have not been driving the truck much but had one go bad. They swapped them both out and refunded me the cost of one for some reason i have yet to understand. Even after i asked them, i did not get a good answer.

 

I've run Diehard Platinum AGM's in the excursion now for about 40 months, they are still cranking very strong, and it sure is nice not having to deal with corrosion anymore.

This last spring the f350 needed batteries, local Sears no longer stocks the Platinums, so I bought the Oreilly's platinum agm battery. About a month ago when we had our first cold stretch, one of them went bad... They warranted it out, in fact they replaced both when I asked them, but was still a hassle I didn't expect so soon.

 

I have Autocraft Gold but only getting 2-3 years out of them.

I decided to try the Advanced Auto Duralast Platinum. They are AGM 750cca. I got them for about $170 each after discounts. I would have loved to put the ones in that you did, but can spend that on batteries right now. The new AGMs crank the truck over nicely. They have a 36 month warranty.

 

I took a leap of faith and gambled a bit. I recently conveyed my thoughts on the experiment of buying the high dollar AGM batteries and hope I don't get burnt and made a mistake. A wise man quickly told me that "it is only a mistake if I don't learn from the error of my ways and make the same decision again" or something to that nature.

This is my first time buying "high dollar" AGM batteries. My only knowledge about them is what I know in the way of deep cycle AGM batteries for RV's. They are better than lead acid, but not nearly anything like lithium.

So, I decided to try the AGM's in hopes they last until 2026 or so. If not, then I will re-evaluate my options at the time. Keep us updated on your thoughts on the batteries as time progresses.
