NV4500 with 390 FE
Iv herd of ways to mate a NV4500 from a gasser dodge. Im assuming i would still need an adapter plate? and to use an extended the input shaft? would my ford NP205 mate up to it? I want to replace my T18, I can deal with driveshaft length changes & making mounts if they are gonna be different.

I can't help with the 390 to NV4500, I would think you would need an adapter or bell housing.
If you plan to marry the NV4500 and NP205 together you will need an adapter. Make sure you use the proper seal to keep your transmission oil from migrating to the transfer case. Running a NV4500 dry is a costly mistake.

Advance Adapters - they make an adapter to go from your existing bellhousing to an NV, then another from the NV to your 205 -
The TCase is where it gets fuzzy, though, I know I've talked to people that say it bolts right up, possibly with some clearancing, some say it needs an adapter.
There's also a flywheel spacer/adapter to put a ZF in there, I'll probably get blasted for this, but I like the way a ZF shifts better - another option.

yes, i would prefer a ZF5 or 6 to be honest. I just figured it would be much more difficult to get it to work, finding the right adapter and redoing my whole clutch system, I like things just the way they are in that department, but iv said things like that before. whatever is easer/cheaper for me to do between those two options is probably the rout Ill go. Reason is, I think my t18 is about done, 350k... & I need to pull my np205 off anyway for input seal.

Read through this, it is a bump but worth the read.

Yea, those would be great, but all I hear about them is that there noisy, that is a major red flag for me, most of my miles on this truck are pulling a stock trailer from Montana to California and back, so quite is what I need. plus my transmission is about done anyway, & i gotta pull the Tcase off to do seals, so since Ill have everything apart, I might as well find a way to join modern times & do a 5 speed,

I did a NV4500 swap behind my 390 before I went to the 5.9 Cummins. That 5 speed will make you wonder how you ever manged to drive the truck with a 4 speed.
Read that thread 54Hydro posted very closely. That is how I figured mine up for my 76. Very informative.
I ran a divorced 205 and a 2wd tranny, but you can buy an adapter for a 4wd trans to np205 from Advance Adapters. The bolt pattern is the same for the case, but the adapter spaces it back about 2" so it can use an adapter shaft between the two.
