Project: WORKHORSE F350

Hi All,

I've been a member here, albeit over on the 48-56 board, for over ten years...

I started my own business this year, using bulk chemicals to clean up Industrial wastewater all across Australia.

An early kink in my armour is stock delivery.....it quickly became apparent that I am the littlest fish in a big pond, so my stock delivery reliability has suffered badly.

As part of my master strategy to overcome this issue, I recently considered buying a 69 F350 dually tray back so I can do emergency runs from Melbourne to Sydney with two tons of chemicals on the back.

Here in Australia, Bumpsides were reasonably common, used as ambulances, etc....but the big F350 duallies are hens teeth! and now I GOT ONE!!

This particular specimen is pretty good for rust, and currently has a 460/C6 which the owner is removing before I get it.

Current plans include;

I will endeavour to add pix as a build thread here, just to document some of the subtle differences we have to contend with down here.

    Cheers

    Early progress.

I got lucky and found some unicorn horns to use as parts on Project Workhorse.

Power Disc brakes, still on I-beams, from a 73 -79 F350, including proportioning valve.
Requires change to 8 lug, so I also got the wheels to go with it.

Aussie BTR EB Falcon 4 speed OD auto.

The real Unicorn manure......Aussie RHD Datsun 280C PS box conversion.....it cost more than I paid for the whole truck!!!
Includes Box, Pump, rag joint, mounts, lines, template and upper weld-on mount for top of chassis. Absolute unobtainium.....

I also found a pair of extractors / headers to suit 351C into RHD Aussie F350 - try finding that!!!!

    Woo Hoo!!!!!!

Nice ride and congrats on the parts scores! I have never seen a bump with 6 lugs before. Keep us up on your progress. I like the truck.

Nice looking truck. Those are the tallest mirrors that I've ever seen on a Bump.

Apparently, the previous owner used to tow BIG boats (yachts, etc) with it for a business.

Yet, rust around the backend doesn't seem too bad ......yet.

    I'm thinking "West Coast Jnrs"...

    Dear Viewers,

Do NOT adjust your sets- this IS a RHD F350, from the factory....

The first person to say "the steering wheel is on the wrong side" will suffer the biggest hacking since the last US elections.....its really, REALLY, not even remotely funny after 87,000 times......really.....

Very cool!! The first rhd bump I've ever seen pictures of. We see a lot of stuff on the internet about carry over parts and models south of us but never anything like this. In USA the last year for the 6 bolt wheels was 1966

Ford, Dodge and Chev all had 6 bolt for local Aussie production.....I suspect it was some weird thing to fit within "minimum required local content" rules in Australia back in the good ole days.

Notice that the dash is made of very similar parts......but does NOT have the drop down of the bottom edge of the dash each side of the steering column, like the US dash does.

I just noticed on a youtube video that the US column auto has the gear shifter in 4th in the same spot you want your accelerator leg.
On the Aussie column shift, the shifter is on the left, while the accelerator leg is on the right.....much roomier!!
