Hey all,

So I haven't been on here in awhile, been busy with work, family, life, etc... So anyways I have been in the middle of a long slow project of fixing up my 79 F250 4x4. I'd wanted the truck for awhile, finally found the right one and worked slowly on getting it all fixed up the way I wanted it to be. But, life and things change and am now thinking of selling it. But the question is, should I sell it now as it or try to finish fixing it up and then sell it. I know that either way it'll be a bit of a loss on money probably, but I'm thinking that if I sell it now as it, I'll probably be able to get more of my money back out of it than if I finish it up. So what does everyone here who probably knows more about these trucks than I do think I can get for my truck.
79 F250 4x4, Reg cab, long bed, dual tanks, side storage box, sliding rear window, rebuilt 300, 4 speed manual, new Edelbrock 500, Offy intake, EFI exhaust, Crane 262 cam, new LED headlights, new radiator, new master cylinder, new Alt, starter, waterpump, fuel pump, new BF Goodrich A/T KO2 tires, new shocks, new seat, new window seals, have the type 8 mirrors, I think they're the type 8, the swing out tow mirrors but not installed yet, new tailgate hardware but not yet installed either. probably a few other small parts here and there that I can't think of right off hand, Needs a small bit of body work, new bumper and needs a paint job. Runs and drives great but just needs to look better now. Any advice on what price range to ask for it, what it's work would be greatly appreciated.

I think if its running and driving then you can get decent money out of it. I think the body work/paint is expensive and time consuming and you probably wouldn't get your money back out of it. As far as what its worth really depends on where you are and what your rust status is. Pictures help in these situations.

 

Why chase money? If no more money comes out of your pocket, you are ahead of the game. There is always someone looking for something at all stages.
I dont mind rust and dents in a 4x4, so if you pretty it up, it will be out of my price range, see? I would rather not scratch up a pretty truck.

 

Sorry to hear you are thinking/needing to sell it. But I agree X2 on quite putting $ into it and cut your losses now. It reads like you have a fair amount of $ in to it and I hope the best for you getting a decent sale price. Check out the local Craigslist market to see what the market in your area might be. Post it in your FTE state chapter and on the FTE classifieds.

I saw the only - is a 300/6 in a 4wd F250, but you seem to have put some $ into it and it is a manual so it's not gutless. But I think in some folks eyes that will be a negative. Post a pic and we will price guess it based off where we live and or our opinions. Have your big boy boots on, because you might not agree with some of us. IMO mechanically reliable is #1 and the rest is #2.

 

I've never posted pics here so I will work on figuring it out since I've seen that there are articles on here about it, or I can possibly email them to someone and have them help me get them posted. I'll take and get a few new pics to see what you guys think about it. Thanks for all of your help.

 

please help me to figure out what sorta of a price I should be asking for, for this truck with all of the previously mentioned work and upgrades that are done to it so I can work on getting it listed and sold soon. Thanks for all of your help.

 

You never recoup the money spent on new parts. The parts that are new, every complete truck already has. Around here unmolested and well maintained trucks bring the most. Since it's not much to look at and that is the only chance at a first impression, I'd say it would be in the $3000-$4500 range where I live. If it's all together and they can drive it home.

 

thanks for the info and advice. I'd like closer to 5k but I know 4k plus will be great. just hoping it will sell quickly here in western Washington.

 

I live in Ohio, so the value directly relates to the amount of rust.
Older trucks like that are pretty rare out here...I think you could get $3-4K in the condition that it is in.
If you dont need the money right away, the value of these trucks is trending up as they are becoming more collectiable.

I don't think you should do anything else to it because you'll only lessen the amount of money to recoup, but that's worth maybe 3k tops around here in Pittsburgh I'd say. And that's recognizing that it doesn't appear to have any rust and we're like the rust capital of the US...

You've got a two tone truck, with a ton of holes in it, no carpet, smallest motor available. I realize the 300 is a great motor, having owned one myself. If you have something that actually proves the motor was professionally rebuilt, maybe you gain a little more. But if you just have parts receipts and did it yourself, or your buddy helped, its not helping you any.

That being said man, shoot for the stars and see what people are willing to pay for it. Its worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay.

 

I have all the receipts for it, for the parts, for the shop that did the machine work to rebuild it and the shop that did the R&R etc. the holes are from the old body trim on the bed, and I know it's got no interior floor mat in it now but I'm hoping to get a bit more than $3k, hoping for closer to 5, at least 4500 would be nice. 5k better. Are you saying that everything works? Someone could hop in and drive it 3,000 miles?

 

I think as it sits it's 3-4K at best. Looks sell and the primer bed is hurting you. It wouldn't hurt to shop it around for single stage paint quotes. All new paint and you might be able to get a lot more for it. Your interior looks to be $120 in carpet from looking great. Carpet may not be something that gets you more $ but it may be something that gets the truck sold.

That said, list it for what ever you want out of it and the worst thing that can happen is it doesn't sell.

I am with buckin on this - you will for sure get more money out of a more finished truck, and it's not diminishing returns.

Make it pop, and it will sell.

New interior carpet would be a start...as well as making it all 1 color.

You might be able to get a single stage paint for 1500...and then list it for 7500 if everything works on it.

Some guys love a 300 and 4-speed.


I think that truck in your area is $4kish.....what the heck..list it at $5k and see what happens as-is?

 

yes everything on it works and it runs great, just doesn't look great yet. yes you could jump in this truck and drive it 3,000 miles. Mechanically it is sound as it gets for a truck this old, well better as it's got a new rebuilt 300, with all new accessory parts on it, radiator, master cyl, water and fuel pump, starter, alt., carb etc..
