Another cab followed me home

Picked this up tonight for $150. 66 2wd rig I believe. Loaded with custom cab options. Bummer that it's not compatible with my 65 4wd but I think I scored with the door pockets and dash pads.

Nice score.. Is it hard to remove the dash pad? Any tricks on how to remove it.? Never removed one before. Another question. Are those cracks repairable? There is one at the local picknpull in similar condition. Not sure if I should grab it. Any advice is appreciated . ,Doug.

I heard a rumor they are glued down. You can try a surgical sir inge ( cannot spell it tonight) loaded with a solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Carefully inject it in as many areas you can starting from edges and working your way into it deeper to remove the glue. I have not tried it and this may be a case where a repop would be easier since this one needs repairing anyway.

Even if you can't salvage the pad "GET THAT TRIM STRIP UNDER THE WINDSHIELD" You need it to install a pad and they are becoming extinct. At least in this part of the world.

The trim is not that hard to find around here evedently. Lol. Thats just about all thats left from the rusty trucks in the salvage yards near me. I have already picked up 5 extras. The clips on the other hand is a different story.

The pad on mine was glued down. Removed it because it was in really bad shape. The paint underneath was in great shape and I like the look of the metal dash.

Yeah, great score. How is it for rust?
I removed my UV-baked dash pad with a plastic putty knife. There's not much glue under there, but it's tough to clean off. I used many applications of Goo-Gone. Don't use Goof-Off, it will remove the paint too.
I found nice paint under mine too.

I’m hoping to reuse that pad in another cab so I’ll take my time removing it. I haven’t looked close for rust yet but the lower drivers cowl is rusted out. I think you can see that in one photo. The gutter is clean and floor seems solid through the carpet.

I really wish this was a step cab so I could use it on my 65 4wd.

By East coast standards you stole that cab. Rust free or even almost rust free sheetmetal is rare, and unheard of in that price range.

So what would you guys do a ton rust repair? A roof replacement and minor floor boards repair or a cab replacement that involves new frame mounts for the cab and new steering stuff?.....

Assuming you are not going for a correct restoration since you plan to likely modify the frame/engine mounts for a power steering conversion? I'd go with the best cab you have and add the new front frame mounts for the cab.

Are there any build threads where someone has used a non step cab in place of a step cab on a 4x4 like mine?
