I got a stock Cleveland In a '79 F150, Or do I?

I have a stock, 1979 Ford f150 4x4 custom. It has a VIN tag that states it has a 351 motor. So I looked up 351's and my head split. is it a 351(M)odified? a 351(W)indsor? A 351(C)leveland?....holy mackeral.

So, I do my research and I strongly believe it is a 351CLEVELAND. It has 8 bolts in the valve head covers and the fuel pump has bolts into the engine block at 12 oclock and 6 oclock. But it is a 1979.
Door tag states it was ordered from the Seattle District from San Jose. Educate me.

351M.

351C production ended in 1974. In the US, the 351C was never in a truck other than a Ranchero.

Do you still have an emissions tag on one of the valve covers? Look for "engine family" and look for "400/351M" or just plain "351M".

Good news and bad news. Stock, it makes 139 HP. In other words, not enough power to hurt itself, as another member noted about the similarly hamstrung 360FE. This means you can probably rebuild it into a decent running 400, get twice the power and use the same amount of gas.

Since I did my original post, I realized it is a 351Modified. Thanks. I have a few questions about this set up....the climate control is going to be a total redo...I also need and alternator and fuel gauge/sender set up...any recomendations?

This is the wrong forum. I think the forum for your year truck would be best, as you have questions beyond the engine. I will make a request to move the thread. Stand by.

In case you want to replace the alternator wiring harness, that's the one that goes from the alternator to the regulator.

Harness, alternator wiring fits 78 F100-350 w/amp and oil press gauges, all engines and 70 amp Ford alternator

Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code. 1977/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco: H = 351M

351C installed in 1970/74 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars/Ranchero only.

351W not available in F150/350 & Bronco until 1981. Has 6 valve cover bolts per side.
