Been searching but can't come up with a clear answer. Looking for the wheel base length for the Ford built crew cabs 65-66. long or short bed, Style or Flare side. I know a lot depends on the type of truck they started with. Also interested in cab length as opposed to a standard cab. Just how much longer the cabs are.

Are you sure something you've seen like that was made by Ford? or one of the conversion companies? The short bed (6 1/2') is shown as available on the 147" wheelbase. I don't think the wheel openings of the bed would work out quite right with everything remaining the same but wheelbase being 18" less. Think about it for a minute and look at that drawing a little more. Imagine the rear wheels in that drawing being 18" closer to the cab and then put a bed on it. I think you'll see the problem.

Now, this is the wrongbed styleside on a 120" wheelbase, but it gives an example of what I'm talking about.

I think there was more than one company converting them as I've seen different styles. The ones that Ford sold were done in Canada IIRC, by a company called Crown something. I'm not sure how far back they went but up through the 72 models. The wheelbase listed is a bit longer than my 69 shortbed CC was, and it seems like it was 138

 

There were conversion companies - absolutely - but then in 1965 Ford also started making their own at the Ontario, Canada truck plant that were NOT considered conversions. That is what the drawing above comes from is the original Ford brochure for their own flavor of the Crew Cabs which was not a Crown or other conversion.

Here's a snippet from the Crown brochure. Here you can see the wheelbases they offered and how the bed looked on it when done. I think they would also extend the frame in some cases.

Chad, thanks for posting the great photo of your Dads beautiful F 250 crew cab 4x4. It appears to be a photo taken in 1970? It even has the factory "crew cab" emblems on the cowl (which some people don't believe exist) unless it was printed in the "books".

 

Yes, that photo was taken in 1970 about the time the truck was brand spankin' new.

And here's me standing next to the truck. I zoomed in and it definitely says

CREW CAB

on that cowl plate. I remember that, too, now that you mention it. I wasn't aware anyone said they didn't exist.....




That scan was only at 300 DPI - I'll dig up the photo again and scan it at 2400 DPI or higher and see if I can get that to show up better.

Here is my 1965 crew. Interesting fact = mine is an F100. Most are 3/4 or one ton.

 

It wasn't just anybody........... it was Number Dummy.

 

I not only have all the original pictures from above but I have all the negatives, too. I'm not sure what size of a negative that these are but they are much larger than a typical 35MM camera so I'm planning on taking the negatives to a place called Panda Labs here in Seattle and see if they can give me some nice sized prints of these using their dark room. Then if I scan those prints I think I can probably get some better images. But, even so I think you can see in that one picture next to my left ear that it is a four letter word followed by a 3 letter word - what else could it be? Lol.

No comment on the rest of that...I'll hold my tongue.
