Experience using Rislone Head Gasket Fix
I know it's not really the ideal fix, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience/luck using Rislone or Bar's Leak Head Gasket Fix to repair leaking head gaskets or EGR coolers? My truck is an 05 F350 6.0 diesel and I've been loosing coolant out of the overflow tank cap. It also will blow a little white smoke out the exhaust on a cold start but cleans up in a few seconds.

I will put it to you this way. If you want to cause more damage to your engine, radiator, oil cooler and wallet then pour that $h*t in your engine.
The ONLY fix is doing it the right way. First properly diagnose your problem as some have misdiagnosed head gaskets and it was a bad cap etc....just my opinion

Any gauges ? Could be a few things , blown EGR cooler, head gaskets or oil cooler plugged , bars leak or the like will plug things up like mentioned , you don't need multiple issues , need to look at oil/ coolant temp spread, white misty sweet smell is coolant , park the truck nose down slope for 4 to 8 hours then pull the EGR valve , what you don't want to see is wet coolant or sitting coolant down there, we need your temp spread and where your coolant level sits , also is it pukeing out the degus bottle?
Edit do you have the old style degus cap or new?

Yes I did with good results. Like I said it is pricy and time consuming. Directions must be followed. The only con was my EOT temp went up 10*. That does not concern me since I use RP synthetic oil. I’m sure the sealer coated the cooler, reducing it’s efficiency. Also, my EGT temps came down during normal driving and during acceleration. I use to have a coolant filter with a pressure gauge. Before I used Titan, I would always have pressure in my cooling system when left overnight. Now I have zero pressure when I squeeze the upper radiator hoses.
Mark, I’ll get the “I’m an idiot” replies for doing this. Like my using a K&N reusable oil filter or using RP synthetic ATF which I now have 80k miles on with zero transmission problems.

Also glad you have had success Ed. It can be helpful when people try different things, even the controversial ones. Would love to see updates on your experience every year or so, because with something like that, success is measured in years and many thousand miles.
That said, like Joe, I still don't think I would try it. Seems like too many unknowns and variables for my peace of mind.
Also, the oil cooler performance is something to watch. It isn't just about the outlet oil temp. With heat exchangers like our oil cooler (stacked plate type), the stresses imposed by temperature differentials also come into play. Hotter oil will mean some higher stresses (although 10 degrees isn't much). Remember, your oil temp reading is the cooled temperature and the highest oil temps are far greater than the EOT reading. However, even if you had to replace the oil cooler as the only issue, it would still be quite a success for you.

To me this is making a $4,000-6,000 dollar repair into a $12,000-16,000 lottery game.
Nylyon's oil cooler I cut apart (silicate sludge), replace with stop-leak.
Sealers may be OK in a commuter gas motor when combustion pressures range from 500-1000psi, but diesels tend to run 2,000-2,500psi range. When gaskets start to leak it's higher damn to generate with a sealer, and with the oil to coolant heat exchanger with small passages, IMO it's a gamble I'm not willing to take.

I have to admit for a second (or a few minutes) I slightly entertained it when mine let loose a few months ago. My left head was physically seeping at the head gasket.....figured I am gonna call pops since he's newly retired from the repair game and I got out of it 15 yrs ago. I figured maybe they have developed some new stuff that will get me by, until I can tackle the monster job.
Well, let us just say that my dad about disowned me for even mentioning it
Then I slapped myself for even considering it.

Maybe on A 7.3 but using bars leak on a 6.0 neh, to the poster , just trying to help ya out , in the long run your going to plug up the oil cooler , just like adding anything like Alcohol or water to the Injectors it's a bad idea ,we can problem solve this with a gauge , did you get a chance to get numbers or park it down hill and pull the EGR valve?
Also running hot or blowing coolant via heads or EGR cooler will Hydrolock the engine, please don't Hydrolock and try to start the engine .
