Trans slipped this morning. :(

After having the trans (e4od) rebuilt a few months ago, On my way to work this morning It slipped very badly at about 30mph, engine revved up and I had to pull to the curb.
I took it to the builder and he got code 621 and others related to the solenoids.
He removed the pan and installed another solenoid block, pack or whatever its called under warranty. It looked like an aluminum block with 2 solenoids and A connector.
He seems to think there was an electrical problem with the one that was installed.

When i got the van back and drove it, it felt more responsive and whats odd is that at a stop it will move forward when I take my foot off the brake, before it just sat there if I were to take my foot off the brake until I gave it gas.

Now I am very unsure about taking my van on long trips like I had planned.
But I guess thats what AAA is for....

Hopefully this was just a Fluke.

Drive it around town a bit, if no problems hit the road.

I replaced a E4OD in my '92 3 years ago, after replacing, it would not shift out of 1st gear, I drove it to the tranny wholesaler's shop, and they had to replace the solenoid block, they installed the wrong one on the re-man, and it's 25K+ later and still fine.

First reading your header.........I though your were driving on banana peals????

Those solenoids are a weak link in those transmissions. Could be the rebuilder installed a used block that failed or a new one with a manufacturer's defect. I might ask him if he put a new or used block in when he did the warranty service, if it's a new block your odds are excellent, used block, well a little more chancy but still decent.
Is it worth carrying a spare, just in case?

I drove it back and forth to work today, Runs good.

Pretty sure he replaced it with a used one because one of his workers pulled two boxes off a shelf and showed them to me, thats how I knew what they look like. one was kinda grimey and another looked fairly clean. When It was rebuilt he told me he replaced all parts with new ones.
It was rebuilt before by the same company and owner and it lasted about 12 years so
I am pretty sure this was just a fluke.

These solenoids, what exactly are they doing? Actuating hydraulic spool valves perhaps? I can't see them having the strength to pull in a band.

I'm sure he does from all I learned from his input. When I think of solenoids I think of legacy Pinball machines!

That's normal. That's healthy.

That is NOT normal nor healthy.

I believe that's correct, actuating a valve of some kind.

Well, its been running good for a week now. I plan on taking it for a long drive in a month or so, or when the weather cools down.
