Russell braided brake lines

Well I installed my Russell ss brake lines

I kinda have mixed feelings about them. On the one hand the brake pedal is insanely firmer and more responsive than the original rubber lines and look to be very high quality, made in USA, an amazing deal for $149 shipped Amazon prime for the 5 ss braided lines.

However, install was definatly not plug and play. On assembly both the front hoses hard line section at the caliper rubbed against the stock sized tires, I had to gently bend those sections about 1" inward to clear the tires. The driver side hard line section appeared to be bent for the passenger side, and vice versa, but they only fit one way with the second fitting on the top drivers side line, and they were labeled correctly. I knew going in I would have an install issue with one rear hose due to one caliper being in front of the axle vs both behind the axle, so no real complaints there since I knew what I was getting into there. If you are looking to do get them check tire clearace after install and be prepared to make a new, or extend the hardline on the rear axle if your calipers are the staggered ones too

I have not heard this before from the Russell kit. Thanks for your opinion on the install and potential problems someone might face.

Np Sous, that was the intent is the post. Only reason i knew about the install issues with the rear calipers was from reading a bunch of reviews, can't remember if it was Amazon or Summit ones that continually warned about that

I experienced the same issue and put the brake lines on the wrong sides. Someone posted pictures and concerns at the same time I was doing my line and I decided to match the old lines with the new lines by comparing how they bent. Doing this I eventually swapped the lines and they seemed to fit right.

Here is some talk about the lines.

How did you swap them from side to side without the second fitting on the top of the drivers side hose?

How is your setup. I believe on the early 99's the front brake calipers had one on the rear side of the axle and one on the front side. Is that how yours is setup?

You profile says you have a 99.5 which I thought switched the calipers to be on the same side of the axle.

This is the ds front

the pass side hose doesn't have the spot for the second hard line to attach to, don't see how you could swap them

are you talking about the rear hoses? Mine is 99.5, and has one caliper in front of axle and one behind axle

I don't have that second line on mine vehicle. I wondered what purpose that extra connection served on my new braided lines. I just kept the plug in on mine. I guess someone with the same year as yours may have to chime in.

I may have been mistaking the rear with the front for the position of the calipers so you can disregard my earlier statement about it.

Today I learned pork tamales kill brain cells. Alternate headline; this pic makes no sense to me. Why are there 2 hard lines at this flex hose?? Front should be one hard line on each side to fitting on frame where one flex line connects, held to frame tab via clips, then flex line to caliper. In this pic we have some weld action instead of a clip and 2 hard lines.

I'll have to look again in daylight but I believe the right hard line is the supply from mc, and the one straight in line with the flexible hose goes up front towards the drivers side headlight towards the ABS module. Not sure what welding job you are referring to, I used the included C clips to install the new hose back on the bracket instead of those pain in the *** dual direction clips

If you order the PMF kit, a bit more expensive, they account for the rear calipers.

My 99 is like the OP's with the Left caliper up front.

I made it work, unbolted the hard line for the rear ds caliper, moved it from behind to in font of the axle and zip tied it to the axle, then the hose was long enough to reach. It's no longer bolted to the spacer behind the axle, but it reaches. Granted now it doesn't have the axle to protect it from getting pinched, but I rarely off road anymore

It appears that the PMF kit does not address the rear brake lines, unless I am missing something.

Try the bottom most drop down window....$59.99 additional for the rear caliper lines.
