99-04 wheels on 05-07 truck

I know there are differences in brakes on the 05-07 and I know the axles are wider. What Im wondering is, has anyone put 99-04 wheels (17" or bigger, obviously) on an 05-07 truck?

In theory, the wheels should stick out roughly 1 3/4" more than stock on each side.

Reason I am asking is because my 99 is about to get a 4wd swap from a 2006 truck. Ive got access to a newer set of 20" wheels but I was hoping to stay in the 17" realm, and Im curious how it looks with the wheels sticking out a little more.

Any pictures or help would be greatly appreciated.

Bump! Anyone?

Or do you guys know the stock offset and backspce for the stock 99 wheels? I’m sure someone has a newer truck with aftermarket wheels that have similar specs to stock 99 wheels.

Your choices of OEM '99-'04 wheels in 17" and over is limited to only the '04 18"X8" wheels that came on Lariat (optioned), King Ranch (optioned), Harley Davidson (standard) and SVT (performance parts desk only). These are all very similar in style and design with only small detail differences between the flavors and they were the only pre-'05 OEM wheels over 16" ever offered. And yes, on '06 axles they will stick out 1.75" farther than stock wheels.
The 5 spoke wheels in my signature picture are the '04 Lariats 18"s.

Your wheels look real nice! Although, it sounds like they are a little harder to get hold of. I knew the older wheels likely wouldnt be used on newer stuff because of limited choices.

What about aftermarket wheels that are 17" but built to 99-04 spec?

Im just really trying to see if Ill like the stance on the truck with the tires pushed out a little. Ive got a buddy selling a set of aftermarket 17x9 wheels that were on his 01 superduty and they sit like stock. The only problem is, I cant test fit without installing the front end on my truck and if I do that, then Im stuck with no wheels if I dont like the way his fit.

The factory wheel offset between the 2 is 40mm for 2005+ and 6mm on 2004-. Therefore, the usual difference will be 1.5" sticking further out than the 2004 stance. If you know the aftermarket wheel offset it would be easy to find images of trucks with the same wheel offset. I will guess your buddy's wheels are a "0" or "-6" offset, and I know the "0" offset wheels stick out quite a bit on the newer SD's. Here's a pic of my old truck with 17x8.5" and 0 offset wheels with 285/70/17 tires.

Yours doesnt look bad at all. I like how wide it sits, its enough to be noticed but not enough to look out of place. I appreciate the picture!

I kept my 18" x 9" XDs from my 2000 axle and used them on the 06 axle. Sticks out an extra inch or so.

What are you going to do about the rear end? Do your gears match the front end your swapping?

I kept the original rear axle. I had recently installed a LSD and went through it. The 06 needs an overhaul. Both are 3.73

The gears in the front end do match my current rear end but Im going to be building it with probably 4.30's. My plan is to find the matching sterling rear end from an 05+ truck and build that one also. That way I can do it all at the same time.

Do you have any pictures of your setup?
