Old vs '08 tow mirrors

I'm looking into upgrading the mirrors on my stock '00 excursion.

I'm leaning toward the "period correct" older tow mirrors just because I think the '08 mirrors could look out of place with everything else stock.

However, the main purpose of these is obviously visibility. Is there a significant visibility increase on the '08 tow mirrors or is it similar to the older tow mirrors? I'd like to eliminate blind spots. I drove a '15 f150 for a while with tow mirrors that basically eliminated blind spots.

Yes, the newer tow mirrors are that much better for visibility. If that is your goal, then there is not a better choice out there.

On the other hand, I completely agree those giant, square tow mirrors look out of place without a giant, square 08+ front end to go with them. Makes the truck look like a little elephant with big ears.

I agree with Mike about how much better the '08 mirrors are than the period correct ones. I have towed with both and will never go back to the "correct" mirrors, the '08s are that much better!

I sold my Excursion, but I drove it for about 2 years with 2011 mirrors. I REALLY recommend them.

Still miss the Ex!

Yes, it's very significant in my opinion.

For the older style, I always had to purchase the C-Betr blind spot mirrors and add them to the tow mirrors so they would function properly, providing proper visibility.

The new '08 mirrors do this already.

I drove a '15 f150 for a while with tow mirrors that basically eliminated blind spots.
If you're used to those 2015 F150 tow mirrors, then in my opinion you'll seriously appreciate the better view the '08 mirrors bring.

I've upgraded to the '08 mirrors on three of my trucks.

Do NOT get the old style tow mirrors.!!!!!!

If the '08+ don't look ok to you, get the '17+ (I think, f150??) version, somebody posted a writeup, they are a bit smaller, less visibility, but way way way better than the old style tow mirrors.

I still love my add-on C-Betr mirrors and the old style, the newer ones do look out of place.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Sddesigns thanks for the pics, that helps a lot. Think the newer style might be better for me, there's a lot going on with all three mirrors!

So, where's the best place to order the 08 mirrors? Are these eBay mirrors a good option?

Don't get mirrors off eBay unless you like wavy, warped glass.

No! 1A Auto only. They are a supporting vendor here and compared to a few other mirrors that some have gotten off of ebay or from somewhere else, they are head and shoulders above the competition.

I just bought this set for my '04. https://www.1aauto.com/ford-mirror-p...1093546&y=2007

Stewart,

Not to hijack this thread, but does your '04 have turn signals in the mirrors? I have an '02 that I want to put the newer mirrors on, but don't have signals in the current mirrors.

Thank you.

Red, there are several tutorials in the Tech Folder up top (Excursion forum) that will help you get those turn signals hooked up.

If you are going to do the upgrade, I recommend going with the A1 Auto mirrors - they are far better quality than the cheaper ones found on ebay. The cheaper ebay ones have distorted weird main glass. Also the A1 mirrors have auto folding function that you can easily wire up to a switch and makes it convenient to get that passenger side mirror in parking lots.

Here's a pic of mine on my 05 for how they look.

Am I missing something or is there not an option for power fold marker light and painted cap?
