Canadian truck in southern Az?
Ok, so the more I get into this truck the more it pisses me off. Is there a difference between the front crank seals in am American 460, and a Canadian 460? The front crank seal I popped out of the timing cover cross reference to a Ford 9in pinion seal. The old seal is a Victor pn47280-c1. Also timing cover pn is d9te6059-ab

There's a lot of things that I've found that don't make sense with this rig, that's why I asked. Who in their right mind would re-cut a timing cover to fit a different seal? Standard oil pump pickup doesn't fit the pan. Those kinds of things just blow my mind, and I've been building engines for a very long time.

Although, I may check with what they said above, maybe a swap with something older? Check casting numbers maybe.

I bet you see something weird **** working HVAC.
Truck is a 87, last of the carburetor engines. I went back and tried to cross reference the crank seal to anything. Even looked at the 70's 429 thinking this heap may have been swapped. No dice. Block still comes back as correct for year of truck. Only thing I can think of, PO was a city. The mechanic who worked on it before needs to hang up his tools and never touch an engine again. I really shouldn't complain though, it's a $500 truck. The new tires on it were more than was paid for the truck.

Timing cover appears to be a stock cast timing cover, except its been machined out to fit this non standard seal. Its the front crank seal that has me all twisted up. I'm also going to look at a different oil pick up tube for it. the new one I bought hits the oil pan and does not fit in the sump. hopefully the new seal that I ordered will be in today, and I might be able to actually get some work done on this piggy.

In all honesty, I'm not real sure of much of what was done on this truck by the PO. Hopefully I'll have it back together this weekend or early next week. I'll see how it goes. Pistons and cylinders looked great, oil pickup tube was clogged with silicone, rod and main bearings were fubar, timing set was stretched, this seal issue. It's been interesting to say the least. The air injection tubes to the manifolds are crimped and brazed off. I'm going to replace that with pipe plugs. I'll let y'all know how it runs after I finish getting it all back together.
