Oil pan drain plugs discussion

I've seen people on here using the Fumoto valves, not sure how I feel about them. The other option I'm more likely to go is with a magnetic drain plug, I would also replace the crush washer with oil change. I've used and am currently using these on other vehicle I have with solid results. Keep in mind if the magnet is picking up large pieces more than fuzz you likely have some internal issues. I went ahead and included links below to the Fumoto valve, GReddy and Mishimoto magnetic drain plug.

One thing I do like about the GReddy is the flange on the bolt head it self, serves as a solid place for the crush washer.

Been using the Fumoto valve for 5 years now and love it, I don't put more than 3-4k miles on a year so I send my oil to Blackstone labs on my annual oil change. I get a pretty good report considering my driving is mostly short distances, with the annual 1-2k trip.

I'm in the same mileage category, about 5k per year. If you're changing the oil annually at around 3-4k why do you send for a Blackstone report? Does the Fumoto help with sampling?

Just like to keep up on any abnormalities that might crop up, and yes I start the oil flow when draining and wait a few seconds and collect it as its flowing as per the lab's directions.

I also have the Fumoto. I have the one you have pictured with the nipple on it. Best choice you could make. So easy to change the oil. I attach some clear tubing to the nipple then the other end into my container. With the clear tubing I can see the oil and watch for anything unusual. I also attach a magnet next to the drain. I remove the magnet when I drain the oil, then replace. I have used mine for probably 5 years with no issues. I have been through deep mud and snow with no issues.

For a little more piece of mind going through some off road adventures, they have a small clip that goes over the release tab.

I've had the Fumoto on my 4x4 Excursion for about a decade. Never knocked it off, or even lost that little drain hose that I keep attached to it. No issues on my 2006 E-450 either. It sits lower, but isn't off roaded (not on purpose, anyway)!

The fumoto is great. Used it on several vehicles, never an issue. So much easier to drain oil. Dump directly into an old container. No splashing oil, no hot oil hitting your hand. Downside is that you still need to change the filter and some oil will spill. Still WELL worth it.

Yes, F106 for the V-10, F106N if you want the nipple on the outlet that allows for attaching a hose to drain into a container.
