HPOP branch tube question

Hi guys

I have the motor apart and still finding new things to "reseal" the more I read.

The swivel on the branch tube (2004 round HPOP NON SCT) doesn't seem to come apart easily. Aside from the orings sealing the HPOP top and bottom and the updated standpipes and dummy plugs.....is there anything else in the system you guys have resealed or replaced orings in?

I have received sound advice to not mess with the swivel part or the large plugs in the wavy oil rail......Just trying to knock it all out while I am in there.

Just getting opinions so what are your guys' thoughts?

thanks
Joe

"Our" motor production run didn't seem to have the HPO problems that other motors had in the wave rails, for whatever reason, Joe. I hated to even put in the updated dummy plugs, but I did and (knock on wood) I've not had a problem. I never messed with the branch tube either and only did as you're doing by going with new O-rings. Sounds like you've got things under control.

DTR advised to replace the j tube since it's opened up. I realize some don't, and it's another $100(IIRC) but some piece of mind knowning it's not as likely to pop or leak.

I replaced mine when I did the HPOP. The original was not "bad" but not as tight as the new one was.
I think the concern was more of the fact some covers tended to rub the tube wall, so if there is no signs of that you will likely be fine.

Thanks guys.

Tim,
Why are the new dummy plugs a tad longer than the original ones?

Any chance you guys have a part number in your records for the branch tube?

Thank you

Joe

Branch tube is 4C3Z-9J332-AA

I'm not sure about the length of the DP's, mine is an 03 with the log style rail. I have done the DP's on other trucks and never noticed. It's never been an issue from what I have seen and read here.
Not sure I would worry about it since the area that really matters is where the o-rings seat

Well I regret to inform you guys that the seals for the inside of the j tube are not available. I guess I could have sourced them somewhere but at this point I am over the parts hunt.

I finally have EVERYTHING I need and after my torque wrench comes back from calibration....its go time.

The $h*t part is that the j tube is stupidly overpriced. I just kept going back and forth with buying it or not buying it....I just bought it. I would literally drive myself off a cliff if something happened after my build and I could have prevented it while it was apart and on a stand.

THanks for the help guys

Joe

I know right? I did not see the need at the time to "have" to replace it, but at that time was a new 6.0 owner who didn't know much at all until I found this place.

I have no idea about the DP's, Joe. All I know is that they work just fine. I think the later model motors had a different wave rail IIRC but not sure exactly what was different about it. Maybe they made it to fit both models, although the 04's were not prone to leaks like the 05 and up trucks were. AFA the J-tube goes, I didn't replace mine because I got an extra one with this motor, and YES, it's a buttload of work to replace if the old one goes bad, but I've been known to push the envelope a bit, so, in my case, WTF not--LMAO? It's gone 246K and still kicking......knock on wood.

My brother....your optimism gives me hope....but this time I could not stop losing sleep over that damn j tube. Ofcourse my 72 yo dad scolded me today over the fact that Teflon orings "never" fail and that is why they are used in transmissions and I should have not bought the j tube

Either way....it is a stupid expense but 5 months from now when I don't have ***** to worry about I am sure I will have forgotten about that 100.00

Hey boys I have a stupid question.....what is in the CCV breather box (filter) that is located on the LH valve cover?

The reason I ask.....I put it in my solvent tank, not even thinking. Is there screens, mesh a filter? It does not separate so I am wondering if I just messed up?

***can't add reps Tim but by now I owe you 1000000000

Thanks
Joe

Was there something about grinding the cover to add some clearance
for the tube for the 03,04 years or am I thinking of something else?

Joe don't loose the little rubber rings that go between the breather
and the valve cover.

There is a revised cover so the tube doesn't wear through on the early builds.

Thanks for the tips....I didn't have any wear on mine......I snapped the new j tube in place and the 100.00 (stupid expense) wasn't so bad when I noticed the new j tube was tight with very little movement opposed to my old one very loose fitting

Would my old one have lasted....probably.

Do I feel better about the 100.00..... kinda
