What are these bolts for?

Does anyone know what these bolts are for, and what they may look like once removed? These are on the roof under the black "drip rail" molding.

Great question. On the roof under the black plastic drip rail.

I don't even have a good guess. To help hold up the sunroof assembly? To hold sections of the roof together? Mounts for factory roof racks? No idea.

Maybe a call to the service dept. would help. I like your idea (other post), please post back when you find out.

based on truck design and my knowledge of aluminum vehicles, dont remove them, they likely are part of what holds the roof skin on.

What is odd is I have not seen them on the F150 so this leads me to believe that they are mounting points for rails for emergency vehicles. I was able to get a part number for the bolt which is W718746-S450.
Regarding length, bolt size and what it's connected to I am not certain yet. If I can understand what size bolt, threading and what it connects to it would likely answer all my questions.

They hold the magnetic metal attachments and curtain airbag equipment to the inside.

Do you know what size bolt they are and can it be removed, add an external carrier attachment point then install a replacement bolt in its place? Any diagrams to this? Also when you mention magnetic metal attachment point is this for external metal/magnetic points like strobe lights?

I am guessing the magnetic mounting points are for the headliner

It looks like these bolts are for mounting items to the roof. I removed a couple of them and they are all about 9/16 long and need a 7mm driver to remove. I put in some landing pads from Yakima and the bolts supplied fit perfectly. Attached are some pictures.

You bit the bullet and did it, good job. I think you opened a whole new box of ideas for folks. I hate to ask you this...did you seal all the bolts with Lap Sealant or something similar? I hope it all works out for you.
