Max towing capacity

1993 f350 7.3 turbo diesel. Single cab 8 ft bed srw. 4:10 gears stock suspension with a 5spd. Max towing capability. I'm only curious. I read mixed things so I have no clue what's accurate. What is the max trailer weight capacity? And what is the max load to have as for weight on the rear axle and tongue weight?

Do you still have your owner manual? Gross Combined Weight Rating, and max trailer weight should be listed in a table in the Towing section. Match your equipment with the table.

My '96 manual only lists a 4x4 regular cab F350, and zero diesel applications, but it should be comparable to a 460. I have a feeling that the diesel tow ratings came in the Diesel Supplement Manual.

Max GCWR for a 4x4 F350 manual 460 4.10 gear is 16000 lbs, and max trailer weight of 10400 lbs. If you want to increase that to 18500 lbs GCWR, and 12500 lbs trailer weight swap out the manual for an E4OD.

I haven't seen a hitch rated for anything more 1600 lbs tongue weight.

Max tongue weight is determined by the gross axle weight rating and the gross vehicle weight rating. You shouldn't exceed either of them. Load your truck with whatever your typical load is then take it to a CAT scale. Subtract your scale weight from the gross weight on your door jamb sticker, if you get weights per axle subtract the weight of the rear axle from the gross axle weight rating on the door sticker. The lower of these two values is your max tongue weight.

No, that is how much the truck and trailer can weigh. Subtract the truck scale weight to get the max trailer weight.
