1980 F100 Column Shift to Floor Conversion

I have a 1980 F100 currently w/3 on the Tree. Because of the condition of my column and a lack of rebuild components, I'm likely to convert to a 3 speed manual floor shifter and will likely install a universal steering column.

Questions: 1) Does anyone have a recommendation for a particular universal 3 speed manual floor shifter? I'm currently looking at a Hurst 3666809, 2) Does anyone have a recommendation for a particular universal steering column? I'm currently looking at a Classic Performance TC-32-FBK

Thanks!

There is a place to buy, or have your existing column rebuilt. So you have another choice.
1980-1991 Ford Rebuilt Steering Columns | Steering Column Services

EDIT: It looks like the above link is only for automatic transmission columns.

The EOTZ-7228-D 3 speed manual shift collar used on 1980/83 F100; 1980/86 F150/250 & 1980/87 Econoline is obsolete.

No one has any NOS

Be careful with the 3 speed floor shifters and look very hard and don't be afraid to spend some money. I have heard multiple complaints about the cheaper 3 speed floor shifters being junk and hard to shift. I really don't know a good brand though. I looked on Amazon they usually have comments on them, but there are not many there. The one that has some ratings on it are about 50-50 liking it.

Steering Column

Thanks Country Bumpkin - I checked with them and they said because of a lack of parts they're not able to do rebuilds on my column.

Bummer. The bearings and bearing retainers are still available. Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

Maybe its the shifter parts (housing) that are not available. What parts do you need?

Steering Column

To Country Bumkin - Honestly I'm not sure, but my column is not sound - loose and funky. I suspect that the shift tube has failed as the shift collar is sound. I'm only able to get into 2nd/3rd gear, no REVERSE or 1st as of yesterday ONLY after I got under the car and "popped" the linkages on the tranny. I believe it was stuck in between gears as one lever moved fluidly and the other was not - until I manipulated it.

But for my truck being so clean otherwise, I'd give up and part out.

On the column maybe a junk yard one from a floor shift truck.
Then swap your key/lock assy. & maybe the wheel over to it.

Where are you located maybe someone close is parting out a truck and has a column?
That would be a lot less money than a "custom" one.

Thanks FuzzFace2, thank God I found a firm that rebuilds columns in Nashville, TN (T&M Steering Column Repair, 268 Glenrose Avenue 37210 ) and so all I have to do is remove , ship, receive and reinstall my own column in rebuilt condition. Additionally, I have a NOS shift collar (E0TZ7228D) - usually the rarest part to find.

Oh, man, this is another topic I have documented in the subforums here someplace... take a look in the FAQ and HOWTO subforums, there was really good stuff there until PhotoBucket made a poor business decision.... it had pictures & part numbers & swappable parts that can be made to work, it was a treasure at one time....

Good to hear you found someone that can rebuild it.
Keep us posted how it turns out.

It stinks the pictures are gone but the part numbers and words should still be there.

Steering Column

I just got the SOB out of the truck. Need to pull steering wheel off and the shift stick out of the collar. Does anyone know what tool frees the stick? Is a punch or allenwrench?

About the pictures missing from a certain post, can you direct me to the link? Thanks.

It's a punch. There is a pin (like a roll-pin) that needs to be tapped out. I believe it only comes out in one direction (see if one end is bigger than the other).
