1st tow 2017 F350 6.2 w 4.30
Just finished our first camping trip with our new truck. We have a 2017 F350 CCSB with 6.2 gasser and 4.30 gearing. We have a 34 foot travel trailer that weighs approximately 9,000 pounds with all of our gear and we have an E2 10,000 pound weight distribution hitch.
We were only gone for about four days and the trip consisted of about 750 miles total. Mostly flat land but when we got to southern Indiana we did run into a little bit of hills. Mostly 1 or 2% grade according to the truck's on board readout.
First impression: the truck had plenty of power and was very comfortable when towing. I love the ultimate trailer tow camera package!!! While on mostly smooth land, and traveling about 65 miles an hour (70 miles an hour is the speed limit) The truck would hold sixth gear without too many issues. But once we got into a little bit of hills, the truck would frequently just stay in fifth gear and would bounce down to fourth gear and even third gear a dozen times or so. It wasn't horrible, but the truck kicking down into third gear and running about 4500 to 4700 rpm's was a little bit distracting.
Overall, I am very happy with the truck, I'm not sure how much better the diesel would've been, I've never owned one. I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $9000 just to avoid a little bit of engine noise, but I am overall very happy with this truck. I averaged 6.2 miles per gallon while towing our trailer. I had four separate guys approach me at the campgrounds and inquire on the truck and just wanted to see one up close.

I have about the same setup and came from an F150 Ecoboost and it got much better mileage but the F250 does a MUCH better job of handling the load, moving it, and just feels more solid.
I too have 4:30 and my TT weights about 8K lbs and I got 8.9 MPG for 628 miles there and 10.2 MPG for the trip back from Dallas to Alabama.
Great truck.
