I bought a new shift **** for my 1972 f100 and I come home to find out that I can't get the stock **** off. I have tried everything and there is no bolt or anything to indicate how I would get it off. Please help!

3 M/T & A/T: The shift **** was pressed onto the shift lever originally, removing it can be a real b!tch! You'll probably have to break it off.

What would be the best way to break it off? Glad you asked. Remove the shifter from the column. Press the pin out with a modified C clamp. If you have to use a hammer and punch, get a helper to hold that puppy still or you're likely to Waller out the pin hole. Please do not ask me how I know.

Removing the lever ain't all that hard, but once it's removed, put the shift lever **** in a vise, turn the handle and then CRACK!
I did this when I replaced the **** on my former '65 F100 3 M/T that was also pressed on.
The shift lever is serrated for the pressed on ****, making it almost impossible to remove.
