5.4 3V Spark Plugs And Coils Questions

Hello All,
I am sure that this was once beat to death, but I have been doing some research and I want to make sure that I can get this done right the first time. We have a 2005 Expedition EB 4x4 5.4 3V with about 62K on it and I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be to change the plugs and coils out. I have been reading through what I could find on here and this is probably more about confirmation. Any advice/insight/knowledge is greatly appreciated and my questions are as follows -

- What plugs to use? Doing a VIN search on the Ford parts website, it calls for a SP-507. In this thread - https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ark-plug.html- it says that the SP-515 is the updated plug. Should I use a different plug entirely?
- What coils to use? The same search comes up with a DG-511. Is there one better?
- I'm planning on ordering one of these extractor tools, just so I won't need it. Lisle Corporation Is there one better?
- Removal method. Cold or hot? It seems the Ford TSB states cold, a few have said hot. TSB - http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/...dPdf?id=142690 and thread here - https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ue-solved.html Should I take it out and tow something with it to get as much carbon out as possible? Would this make the removal easier, whether hot or cold? What about using an impact?
- Going back in, looks like the shaft below the threads, just short of the tip, gets a light coat of anti-seize. Is the installed torque around 25ft/lbs? Should the threads get a light coat of anti-seize as well?

Feel free to let me know if there are better tools and/or methods to get this done or if I have missed something. Thanks in advance.

What spark plug number is listed on the emissions sticker under your hood?

This is what I have. The manual says to gap at .040-.050 but no part number.

That's odd that the emission sticker doesn't have the spark plug number.

So I went and did some poking around and found the original MotorCraft spark plug number for your vehicle was Part Number: 12405(SP-507). At some point the 12405 was replaced by PZH14F(SP-515).

Also here is a Ford service bulletin on the "new and approved" way to remove the old spark plugs.

Very nice. Thank you. Looks like it is trending towards warm removal. Any advice on the coils?

If money is no option go OEM, but if you want a deal go to eBay for them. Instead of $75 each, you can get a set of 10 for the same price and have 2 spares kicking around.

SUCCESS!

All 8 changed and none broken. Most of them were burnt out pretty good and seems to idle a bit smoother. I took it out, ran the hell out of it and then pulled them as hot as I could. I opted out of the new coils for no good reason. Thanks for the direction.

Are you saying it would cost $600 for a set of 8 spark plugs from a dealer? Or do you mean $75.00 for a set? Is that including installation?

Thanks

Motorcraft coils go for about $75 each, not installed.

So I just got a quote from the shop that I trust to perform work on my 7.3 Powerstroke, and for my wife's Navi, they quoted me $893 for plugs with complete coils and $423 for plugs only, yet on-line I can get the whole set for a total of $75.00 shipped! These are brand new Motorcraft.....What gives! This is insane!! How many hours does it take a good shop (at $100/hr) to perform this job!!

Not the spark plugs, the COPs.

OK, so $423 for just the spark plugs is fair, but to add $470 for the coils?

Thanks for the response.
