What DEF to buy?

New to Diesel. What is the recommended DEF supplier locally and what is the cost? I'm down to about 25% and want to add it before getting too low.

It's all about the same, you can buy it at Ford for $28 for the 2 - 2 1/2 gal jugs or you can get "Peak" at Walmart for around $20.....up to you.

Interesting story...

I was at a local bulk oil supply and there happened to be a chevron semi filling up the 500 gallon totes. I said to him that I understood there were only a couple def manufacturers that he somewhat confirmed.

I asked him if he knew who made the Walmart def fluid. He said without hesitation, "we do"

Many truck stop and larger gas stations have DEF at the pump.

While I'm admittedly very new to having a diesel, from my searching, Peak Blue Def is much less expensive than Motorcraft DEF. I purchased some locally at a Farm & Fleet, $9 for 2.5 gallons, a sale price. Why 's is so much more expensive is anyone's guess.

https://www.farmandfleet.com/product...ust-fluid.html

Even at their regular price of $9.99, for as often as its needed, that will work for me. I bought a jug when it was on sale and keep it in my box for whenever I do need it.

Motorcraft DEF is API certified meeting ISO22241 which is the only fluid approved and recommended by Ford Motor Company. Inferior product may result in costly damage to the SCR system. System damage as a result of inferior fluid is not eligible for warranty reimbursement.

That's actually funny. Thanks for posting. There is no such thing as an inferior product in this category... LOL...

I bought a blue 5 gallon kerosene can at tractor supply. Tossed the crappy stock nozzle and replaced it with an aftermarket one. When I fill my slip tank, I fill it up with def from their bulk tank. I think I pay 1.80 a gallon. Try to keep 5 gallons on hand because my tractor likes to go thru it. Total investment is $30 and it cost less than $5 per 2.5 gallons.

Volkswagen's AdBlue is top quality and very reasonable, plus their small container with the built-in valve can be converted into a funnel after use, just cut the bottom off and loop the straw down away, and you have a cool funnel to use bulk without the worry of over-flowing the DEF tank with that valve....Super cool.

If you have the 8" inch between the gauges I have it down to when it shows a 1/4 tank left it'll take almost exactly 5 gallons to fill up

Well, I went to Walmart and bought Peak Blue DEF for $11.97 for 2.5 gallons. They had another "Supertech" brand for $7.88 for 2.5 gallons. I liked that the Blue DEF was in a cardboard box that was sealed, eliminating possibility that someone returned it after filling it with water.

Next time I'll see if the Supertech has a seal and if so I'll try it.

After adding 2.5 gallons it took about 20 minutes before the DEF gauge came up 1/2 range. Real slow to respond.

The supertech does have a seal underneath the cap, I've been running supertech for close to 10k miles and no problems
