Torque converter failed, backordered indefinitely

My third Powerstroke truck. Repaired the EGR failure on my old 6.0 myself so I'm pretty handy. My 2016 has a torque converter problem and is under warranty. I am stuck in a one dealership town in the middle of moving to another state. Service department just called and said the torque converter is on indefinite backorder. WTF? It's not like I'm sitting at home, I'm stranded in the land that time forgot, Mojave.

I feel for you. I don't even like driving thru Mojave. I'm surprised they know what a torque converter is. Maybe that's why it's on back order. The pony express is broke down.

Thanks. I'll find out Monday if Ford has any answers. Dealer said the part has to be on order for 24 hours before an alternative source is requested. I don't know if they are jerking me or what, but it should feel better than this.

In a worse case senario you could ask the dealer to take your converter and have it cut open and rebuilt.

Torque Converter

What kind of habits did the truck have if any? My truck has been shifting very strange lately. When driving with light throttle it "throws" itself into 6th gear, like it slips for a brief moment and revs up a bit until 6th engages. Then today I slowed from 70 to 65 as I came up on traffic and my truck down shifted to 5th and held that gear for about 15 to 20 seconds. Seemed odd since these trucks in stock form don't mind being in 6th gear at any speed over 40 or so....... the truck was not in tow haul mode, nor was I towing.... Idk, makes me think twice about deleting here soon like I was thinking of doing.

09, your symptoms are different and seem like wear or computer related to the transmission. My torque converter was not decoupling when at a stop. My research found the stator was not diverting fluid back to the pump, therfore the stopped transmission was trying to stop the engine. I have to shift to neutral at red lights or very firm brake pedal pressure.

That stinks. Sometimes parts are in short supply for some reason. I would hope that they are not jerking you around. I also hope you get a quick resolution.

Have you thought of phoning some dealers in a completely different area and asking them if they have a converter in stock?

Waiting until tomorrow to see what they have to say. If they still have no answers that will be my next step.

So, dealer said still on backorder and they've sent district mgr an email and waiting for direction. Tried calling a dealer in San Diego and was told he can't order it until it's paid for and won't know the stocking status until it's ordered. It is 2017, people. Customer service hasn't improved since the beginning of commerce itself.
Called Ford customer relations and got a case number but it is after hours for the representative so no word until at least tomorrow.

Obviously keep at it... This is crazy though. It isn't like you are looking for something off a GT40 that Ford made very few of.

Reminds me of the CNET guy that bought a Tesla, some kid rear ended it and MONTHS (like 6 so far) later Tesla still can't get the bodyshop the replacement parts they need.

Wow, if I had that much influence I'd ask for a new truck instead of his job.

Ford says they've authorized an entire transmission assembly from the factory routing to the dealer. Says the assemblies are waiting to be installed in new trucks and they're gonna pull one off the line. Hmm. Anyway, still no dates or ETA.

As part of his duties, he was responsible for torque converter inventory.
