Load-O-Matic Carburetor/Distributor

I have discovered my 67 240 engine has a Load-O-Matic distributor but the carb apparently is a conventional style with no spark control valve. It has a blank hole but no threads for the control valve.

I have a few options: Find a Load-O-Matic carburetor, modify it to Load-O-Matic specs or find a conventional distributor with mechanical advance. Seems like finding a distributor would be easier.

But first, I would like to know if it's possible to determine what the truck originally came with. That would have a bearing on what my next step would be.

Any Load-O-Matic experts out there?

Most people recommend ditching the loadomatic distributor. They used a different vacuum arrangement, venturi vacuum, above the throttle plates, some kind of metered deal. A regular carburetor will not work right. Even with the correct carb, it never worked all that great. They tended to fall flat on their face, especially if they got out of tune or high miles, I'd imagine. Not one of FoMoCo's better ideas.

True on that. Another reason maybe to go with a 68 and up distributor with dual advance. It seems that 67 was the last year for LoM so I'm guessing the truck came with it.

I think it would be a toss up myself. I can't imagine why your 67 couldn't have come with dual advance also. Both distributors were available from at least the early to mid 60's. You may be right on 67 be the last year for LoM though.

Funny, both versions of the dist are available for the 67. But the differences are "Without Thermactor emissions" for the LoM and vise versa. Don't know what an air pump would have to do with it! I'm gonna get the dual advance dist. It's more conventional and I'm much more familiar with "normal" stuff. At $40, it's cheaper than finding a decent LoM carb.

Thanks for everyone's guidance.

Buy a Dizzy off a little newer 240 so it isn't a loadamatic.
