Tire size alternatives to 285/75R16s

Time to give the old gal some new shoes.

Currently sporting an OLD set of 265/75R16s that need to go. Will be doing spring replacement/upgrades soon but maybe not before tires need to be changed. Springs may happen at the same time however. Especially if they HAVE to.

Was thinking of going up 'a little' (nothing too much).

Seems like most people have 285/75R16s to help cushion the stiffer springs and account for the lift. Downside was that I read somewhere they aren't the best fit for the stock rims (don't remember why).

Was wondering what other options there were.

I have been told 255/85R16s were a better fit for the OEM rims.

V10 w/ 3.73 gears

I have even seen at least one reference to 295/70R18s but know nothing about them.

Pics would be appreciated.

My F350 (plow truck) wears LT235-85r16
They are a bit thinner but overall seem about the same height.

If you want something a little bigger than stock, go with the 285s. They are a little wider, but there are 10s of thousands of guys running them on stock wheels with no issues.

I like the 255 / 85s ..... I looked at them pretty hard for my F350 a few years ago. My issue with them was that no tire shop within 500 miles of me stocked a single one. If you go with them, make sure you do your spare too. If you ever need to replace a tire out on the road somewhere, you'll be sitting until you can order one online and get it shipped to you. Today, that is only 2 days, but still.

I have 285/75 16 on mine with no issues. Actually my spedo was more accurate and I picked up about 1 mpg with them. Remember to purchase them at a tire shop because the big box stores will not mount anything but stock size. Good Luck

Looks good and meaty. Are you on stock springs or is that with/after a spring upgrade?

Well...

I have the complete 05+ coil suspension under the front, which IS on stock coil springs

Rears are stock super duty with the overloads removed (not sure on spring rate, from the same truck that donated the coil suspension). I wrote down the before/after measurements somewhere, but it is somewhere around 2-3" taller than the oem Ex springs.

Toyo MT's (285/75R16) on stock rims, no issue.

......but I just got these last weekend.

Raceline 935BZ (Bronze) Defenders (17x9)
Toyo AT II's 35x12.5R17

Some light rubbing on the front wheel well's (that foamy stuff, no hard plastic). I probably wouldn't have as much rubbing but I recently passed 140K miles a few weeks ago and my leafs are sagging bad. I've planned to get some custom leaf's with a 2" lift.

I'm rocking 285/75/16 BFG AT/2 tires. They fit well under my truck with a leveling kit on V's up front and B's with the factory block in rear.

I had a few Options but was limited because of Discount Tire's policy on oversized tires.

295/75/16
305/70/16
315/75/16

I wanted 305's but they refused to mount them and would only mount the 285s or 295s without a problem.

I went with 285's because they're easy to find if I ever needed a replacement

Will the factory spare tire cover fit over a 285/75-16? It's a butt kicker going over a 265!
