A Dreaded P1316 code...which way do i go??

Well I am confused on where to start, any help would be greatly appreciated. First a little lead up....I have a 2001 f250 4x4 7.3 ext cab long bed with a bale bed on it. I use it for my feed truck. It has 197k on it. Its all bone stock. about 2 months ago my buddy gave me a almost brand new edge evolution programmer that he bought and didn't use for his 2000. I thought cool I don't need any more performance but ill hook it up for the pyro and diagnostics part of it....so I have been using it for the last 2 months for just that and its worked great. For the last 2 days I have been taking a trailer I barrowed to pick up some cattle I bought. Its a bigger trailer than I should be pulling I admit.....32ft triple axle gooseneck. I was taking my time and pulled it ok just slow. Yesterday while I was waiting to load my cattle I thought, why not try the "tow" program, it might pull a little easier? So I clicked the tow program, turned the key off let it run through its process and cranked the truck back up. I went about 2 blocks getting ready to get on the highway(unloaded) and my service engine soon light came on and it through a 1316 code and started a slight miss. I pulled over really quick, reset it too stock settings and cleared my codes. The light went off and the miss smoothed out and I had no more problems the rest of the day. Today however, the code has thrown again and comes back on as soon as cleared and the miss is back. so is it programmer related or all coincidental? Please help! Thanks!

P1316 indicates Codes are stored within the IDM. I am not familiar with the Edge Programmer and do not know if it is capable of advanced Diagnostics to retrieve such codes or perform a KOEO Diag Test.

The IDM basically controls Injectors. So, any anomaly within that circuit could be the issue.

If the Edge will perform a KOEO Diag Test it can isolate the issue to either UVCH and even specific Injector.

Check the UVCH Harness on both VC's and endure they are seated, undamaged, and have no melted connections on the center pins.

Pull the chip and try running stock after clearing codes, see if it throws it again.

Coincedental. It's not the Edge.

Grab an ohm meter and check to see which side is loose. Keep in mind that if the issue is still somewhat intermittent, you'll need to get lucky enough to test it when the connection is loose.

You can read the first couple of pages of this thread to see how to test and fix. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ck-shakes.html

OK...so over the weekend before I broke out my ohm meter I was able to have a buddy come over with a more advanced scanner. I had 4 cyl that did not pass the buzz test...1 on one side and 3 on the other. It was too rainy to do anything else so I pulled the truck in the shop and began valve cover removal. Heres what I found:

Both under valve cover gasket connections were just about to fall out. The passenger side a little worse. I checked at the local dealer and the guy laughed at me and said they haven't kept those clips in stock for a long time so I used the quarters which fit perfectly (Thanks for sharing that tip btw) and put them back together. I sewed the truck back up and fired it up. no codes, no lights, ran smoother than it had before I started having the issue.

So is there a good chance that was my issue? Should I have gone ahead and preplaced the gaskets to the connectionless kind while I was in there?

Thanks to everyone who replied!!!!!!!!
