New carb, runs great, fuel additive?

Just put a rebuilt OEM carb on my 79 F-250 460 4bbl. Started to go with the Holley but really want to stay very stock so I went with the OEM rebuild from RockAuto. Runs great now, but I'm concerned because of the ethanol in the fuel now. I can't find ethanol free gas here in NorCal so I'm curious about which additive has worked best for everyone else.

Any thoughts!?

Startron is a fuel additive I use. I'm a service tech for construction equipment and we have a ton of small engines in water pumps pressure washers ect and water was a Definate problem with ethanol. Startron is a enzyme based treatment that attacks water and makes it able to run in the engine with no negative effects plus it's a stabilizer as well.

Star Tron® Enzyme Fuel Treatment is a revolutionary fuel additive that utilizes enzyme technology to enhance the performance of boats, automobiles, trucks, RVs, tractors, farm equipment, generators, lawn mowers, lawn equipment, oil burning furnaces and all other small engines.

How about for E10 that's been sitting for 6 months? Thanks!

If it has not gone gooey but lost it's fire throw some coleman camping fuel in it. That will bring it back to life.

Installed the factory 4 barrel from vapex at $600 as they pre tested the carb on a 460 in their shop for the dreaded vacuum leak at the throttle body, which throws the numbers on the smog machine not to mention everyday performance.
Went through 2 carbs from summit for around $300 and finally had it with the remove, ship back, reinstall, go back to the smog shop (this was on my 85 f350).

Anyway, the idea of running the “new” gas in this costly investment steered me to the Lucas fuel additive. Buy it buy the gallon and been running it in my dual tank 85 f350 and 87 f150 with noticeable positive effects. Also, run premium gas.
Not sure that its really doing anything. But the trucks run great even after sitting for a couple weeks.

Please, anyone have information that this is NOT beneficial and a waste of money... let me know.

If the vehicle is used frequently then yes it is a waste of money. If it is not used frequently then it is good insurance.

Here is a user-maintained list of ethanol-free gas stations. See if your region is on the list:

Accidentally posted this reply in the bullnose forum this morning.... infinitely scrolling forums, plus mobile web browser get's me lost sometimes...

Treatments don't work well on old fuel. Add with the gas for best effect. Chevron Techron is good. I also like Seafoam.

Any fuel additive is really a waste of money. Once gas is bad it's bad. The additives will just mask that by adding a bit of octane to the gas.

Stabil works for gas that needs to be stored throughout the winter. At the very least it seems to keep the moisture out.

Ethanol treatments aren't really needed. These things run fine on ethanol if it's tuned properly.

Not quite true, depends on the fuel. Some fuels will oxidize badly due to the additives used in it this is a problem with premium here where it has shelf life of about 3 months. Many times the fuel loses it's lighter hydrocarbons through evaporation and won't fire, but they can be replaced by adding a lighter hydrocarbon such as white gas/coleman fuel, a few ounces per gallon is all it takes to put the fire back in the fuel. So if the fuel still looks like fuel and has not gone black or brown or red from rust and has no globules floating in it, it can be salvaged.

I think the best thin to keep it happy is to run it enough the fuel does not go stale. No additive needed. The carb should/would have been rebuilt with E10 compatible parts.
