Thumbs down Tailgate opening by itself

Not sure if there is thread on this but my tailgate is now popping open by itself while driving. It is not supposed to do that while the vehicle is in motion if you hit the tailgate release button on the fob X2 or press the button inside the cab. This is on the 17 Platinum. Any service bulletin that anyone is aware of?

Another user reported this and took it to the dealer. Turned out he was closing the tailgate too "easy". Give it a good firm close to ensure the latching mechanism is engaged.

I haven't had it open in weeks. So not sure that would be the issue. Seems like a strange response from the dealer though.

Since when is it necessary to have and pay for all those sissy options anyways? Electronic tailgate releases to help you load your groceries, adaptive steering so you can check your text messages, blind spot warnings because you don't know how to use those huge adjustable side mirrors and all the other nonsense today. Good luck with all that...

Call them sissy options if you want but I enjoy have the adaptive steering and blind spot warnings. I don't use electronic tailgate release as much but it is nice to be able to drop the tailgate from the cab if someone is walking up carrying something in both hands to load into the bed.

Some of the options available just aren't for me as it seems just something else to have to worry with. But, I believe that if a person wants these things then they should work without issues. I hope the OP will keep us posted on the outcome.

Picked up my truck from the dealer. They found a connection on a wire harness behind the spare tire was not properly sealed which allowed water to enter. Tech blew out water and packed with dielectric grease and resealed. All is working properly again.

The thought of having the tailgate drop while pulling a fifth-wheel is a bit scary. I doubt I'd notice until after the first few turns.

I'd be willing to go clip a wire and lose the auto-opening feature. I like the power lock, but I'm happy to skip auto-opening if it isn't bulletproof. I expect it isn't quite that simple.

I've had this happen a few times, and concluded that I'm hitting the button on my fob in my pocket while I'm still in park. I just look in my rear view mirror to confirm it's up when I'm about to pull out with my fifth wheel. My fob doesn't drop it when in gear.

I've had mine do it also and told the dealer to check it and they surprise surprise found nothing. Ford needs to add a light to the dash for tailgate down like the door ajar.
