F1 LD 3 Speed Trans Driveshaft Needed

Apparently there are only 2 driveshafts used on the 48 - 52 F1's and I got the wrong one for what I need. I have a remote shift 3 speed LD trans with the splined output shaft. The driveshaft I have is for the HD 3 speed and 4 speed crashbox transmissions which have the slip joint in the shaft and connect to the trans directly with a u-joint. Does anyone have a spare correct 48 - 52 driveshaft with the splined female slip yoke that I need? I am willing to trade the one I have or purchase the correct driveshaft outright. I have tried twice to purchase the driveshaft via the internet and got the wrong shaft both times. You might say I have been "shafted" both times. I need to deal with people who know these trucks and what driveshaft is requires. I appreciate any assistance!

ps. it should be a little over 62" long from u-joint centerline to u-joint centerline.

Is the side shifter perhaps from a car? I thought that at least the same driveshaft was used at least for the LD (top or side shift) and at least the HD 3 speed.

I had a HD 3 speed in the past and the output on it was the same as the 4 speed. The u-joint connected directly to the transmission output.

My LD side shift trans came out of a truck (a '50 F1 if I recall) so I am fairly sure it is a truck trans even though I don't know if the car trans is any different. The part number I am looking for is 21C-4605-A according to my parts book. The yoke is part number 21C-4841. I doubt the part numbers will help though as none of these parts have numbers stamped or cast into them as far as I know.

Thanks Bill, the one I need has eyes on both ends (21C-4605-A) with a u-joint and the internally splined slip yoke on the trans end. The yoke, of course, comes separately from Ford but I need it as well.

Unless you find one close enough to drive to get it, you're as well off having one made. I've never found a donor as long as these in the boneyards (that could be cut down/modified), and they undoubtedly have the wrong joints and yoke. As long as these are, it makes sense to get them balanced. By the time you're done with all that, you could have a brand new one.

Do you have the stock rear end? Are you going to swap it for a 9" in the future? Now's the time!

You may be right though I still need a yoke even if I have a new driveshaft made.

Yokes are all over the place, because a common Powerglide yoke has the same dimensions and spline but is a bit longer on the splined section. So it may need to be cut, depending which one you get. A new one won't have 60 years' worth of grooves in it. For instance:
Dana Spicer 2-3-1331X Transmission Slip yoke 16 spline for 1955 to 1964 Chevy Powerglide Transmission 1310 Series

The point I meant to make is, shipping on a 5'+ DS is going to be killer, oversize costs a lot extra.

Thanks for the info on the yoke. I know about the shipping as I bought a driveshaft off the internet already and had it shipped and it ended up being the wrong one. I am almost tempted on using the one I have for the HD 3 speed/4 speed as the length is almost the same. It would require me to add the proper yoke and then weld the slip joint on the shaft so it wouldn't move anymore. Perhaps a last resort if a new shaft is too expensive and no one here has the right one they aren't using.

I cannot check my parts stash until Monday, but I think I have one from my truck #1 build. The trans was a 3 speed with a male splined output shaft, so the driveshaft may be the correct one.

Don't cut that driveshaft up just yet

Cougar, if drptop70ss doesn't come through i have a lead on some parts trucks in my area that i will be looking at next week. There is a 48 F1 and 51 F1. They are not complete however there are gobs of parts. I did not see anything firsthand however i just talked to the guy, he's out of town until Monday(Hey, Maybe it's the same guy drptop70ss !!), and he said the 51 had a flathead V8 in it and a column shift. I asked about the transmission and he said it was a 3spd and it's still in the frame. If that's the case then it's likely that the driveshaft is still connected and the 3 spd could be a LD 3-speed. If so that should be the driveshaft you need i think?. If the parts trucks are salvageable i may try and snag it all so don't hack up that driveshaft just yet. I will be looking at the parts sometime next week so contact me via PM and we'll exchange email/phone numbers so that i'm sure of what you are looking for.

I don't want to overpay for this pile of used parts and i'm not planning on gouging you, i may even exchange your HD driveshaft for this one if it's the correct one.
PM on the way.
