So we know that 97 is the cut off year. The next thing to determine is...are you going to buy a Cali truck or out of state truck.
Cali truck- registration is not an issue because it's already registered. But you still can come across upgrades that you could potentially have issues with if caught by CHP. But most chp's don't care from what I gathered. Maybe if your rolling coal that could attract attention or if your truck if lifted with the tail pipe higher than... I think.. 24"
Non Cali- but registered in cali- again registration not an issue but you may have upgrades done to it that is not in compliance (my scenario, but I don't care, unless I get caught then I'm screwed)
Non cali- not registered in cali- here is the unknown costs. What has been done to it after the original purchase? I don't think you would have to make changes to the truck as if it was sold originally in Cali. Otherwise my truck would have those parts such as the different fuel pump. Possible they may make you send it to a referee but I don't know.
Does anyone know if a 97 OBS 7.3 truck purchased outside of California would have to go through any inspection process?
It would be nice if all vehicles would be uniform across all states rather than California not allowing some parts while other states do. Things get very complicated that don't have to be. And these things can end up costing unsuspecting folks a lot of money.
