Factory leftovers that got semi- evenly dispersed? Didn't seem to follow a trim set or model. I had always assumed it was a bronco/150 thing but I see that I was mistaken...

Good question!

I ponder that myself. My 87 F-150 with XL package had one and it was by no means a well optioned truck but I also saw one that was a XLT Lariat with a centurion conversion and it had one as well. Maybe it was an option for those that didn't want something as shiny?

I am talking 92-97 NOT 87-91

XLTs go the aluminum. XLs did NOT. IF an XL has one it was swapped on

My '94 has the oval, and no Turbo Diesel emblem either. It appears to be the original gate and trim piece.

I know, right? I'm not sure Ford had any rhyme or reason with the tailgate emblems on these, it sure seems random, at least until the '97 models.

My '95 F150 Flareside has just stick on F O R D letters. Blank tailgate otherwise.

My truck is loaded too, captains chairs with inflatable lumbars, power everything.

You have a Flareside, they did not come with aluminum. Same goes for Lightnings.

I did think I had to spell all this out

don't get your panties in a bunch again Brad lol.if anyone knows (unlikely,as there was probably no particular reason) they'll post up regardless as to those who share with what they have.the thread would be totally dead if no one posted cus no one outside of ford will know this.unlikely you'll ever find anyone working in ford who would know either.chill.put on some tunes and relax.it's Sunday brother.there's plenty of enough real world stresses coming during the week.no need to rush things.

My '96 F150 has the "FORD" letters, not the oval. And I believe it's the original aluminum trim piece. I would prefer the blue oval, if anyone wants to trade....

My 92 was a letter plate had damage to bed, it also was damaged took it to ford to have it fixed when I got the truck back it was a oval on the drivers side like a bronco.

My 96 eclipse package truck letter also. I have not seen many with the oval I believe it was just the end of the run of the era and they just kept the oval set up running to swap between bronco and fseries, the remaining letter script were just used up.

The more odd things that get to me are, door pin switch my 92 was back of the door pillar, my 96 old style up front on the A post between the hinges.

Also the hit and miss of the keyless entry systems, my 96 Eclipse came without it, but yet it is all leather, painted on stripes, power back slider window, overhead console, radar detector(wayyy out dated) actual wood everywhere. I have been in junkyards and seen bare bone package trucks with keyless.

When I said my 87 had it I meant the pressed in letters. Not the alluminum. I'm just saying I've noticed the ford letters more on the less optioned trucks

YEs, ALL 87-91s had the stamped FORD into the tailgates, The XLs were just stamped and the XLTs were stamped and them covers with the aluminum

But AGAIN we are talking 92-97
