Recently bought a 2000 EB Expedition, a couple weeks ago the defroster started coming on in the middle of the night and other goofy electrical problems. The other day the battery was dead, I got it jump started and noticed a noise like relays chattering away under the dash on the drivers side. Brought it back to the dealer and he said that the GEM module was corroded and needed to be replaced. Is this a common occurence ? Any body else had this happen to them? Thanks.
Hi blow,
If you do a search on here you'll find that that is quite a common problem. It is usually caused by a leaky windshield. Dont replace the GEM until the windsheild is resealed or you'll probably end up doing it again
I had this same problem, but my wipers wouldn't work at times while it was raining. I did some research & found that a lot of expedition owners have this problem.
This happens to be an old thread, however stick around and someone will be by to answer your question.

Geez, you might wanna try using punctuation next time. It makes it so much easier for your readers to try and figure out wtf you're trying to say.
I had to have the GEM and fuse panel replaced on my '98 not long after I bought it. The truck had some weird electric problems and the repair took care of they. The dealer did it a no charge, then sent parts to Ford. Never found out what was wrong.

HELLO,
I want to see pictures about de GEM, for the history problems mentioned by other fiends Im thinking that i need to get one.. please somebody show me the electrial part. thanks
I have a Ford F-150 and I had a leaky windshield a while back, and the dealer said I needed to have the GEM module replaced. I've already taken the old GEM out to look at it and put it back in, so I know how to replace it. But if I buy a new GEM module, does it need to be programmed by the Ford dealer before it can be used? I would hate to take the truck to Ford for them to replace the GEM because they charge an arm and a leg for it, while it's so easy if I just replaced it myself.
