Factory/stock Wheels and Tires for 1965 F100

I'm nearing the end of a complete restoration and I need to get correct wheels and tires.

Can someone give me the breakdown of factory wheels that will work. I read or heard that due to the fact that I did the disc brake conversion, that none of the Ford factory wheels will work. Is that right?

Is there a look-a-like wheel that is aftermarket that still will accept the "coke bottle" stainless steel hub caps that I purchased (hopefuly can use)?

And then there is tires. What was the brand and size Ford offered on the 1965 F100?

The correct tires were bias ply Firestone or Goodyear blackwalls. Similar tires are available today from Lucas or Coker Tire, sizes: 7:60 x 15, 8:00 x 15, 8:20-15 will all fit. Note that letter series bias ply's were intro'd in 1968.

You may be up the proverbial creek without a paddle, because your truck has "innie" wheels used with 'bottlecap' 9 1/2" hubcaps. The last year for F100 "innie" wheels/hubcaps was 1966.

"Outie" wheels intro'd in 1965 F100's.

If your present wheels will not clear the calipers, you'll have to look for 5 lug, 5.50" bolt circle 15" "outie" wheels from: 1973/79 F100 / 1976/96 Bronco / 1975/96 F150 / 1975/2012 E100/150.

Note that some 1980/83 F100's have 4.50" bolt circle wheels. All these vehicles came with disc brakes.

The stainless steel hubcaps used with 1965/66 F100 "outie" wheels are the same as 1964 Galaxie (C4AZ-1130-A) and are 10 1/4" in diameter. No one repro's this hubcap.

Innie: So called because the hubcap snaps onto tabs located within the center section of the wheel.

Outie: So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section.

Can't I just move to a 16 or 17.5" wheel?

Bill, good info.

If my 15 X 5 wheels does clear the conversion brake calipers, can't I just move to a bigger wheel that was still a factory option in 1965, which you have stated in earlier threads are a one-piece 16 inch wheel and a one-piece 17.5 inch wheel?

Two different statements on 1965 F100 Tires?

Bill,

I'm also confused on your comment about 1965 F100 tires. In an earlier thread you stated this:

Original 1965/66 F100 tire sizes w/15" wheels: 7.00-15, 7.10-15 & 7.75-15. 7.75's predominated and these were all bias ply tires. Radial tires were not offered until the mid 1970's for trucks.

In this thread you stated this:

The correct tires were bias ply Firestone or Goodyear blackwalls. Similar tires are available today from Lucas or Coker Tire, sizes: 7:60 x 15, 8:00 x 15, 8:20-15 will all fit. Note that letter series bias ply's were intro'd in 1968.

Am I missing something here? Kindly advise.

Who reproduces the predominate 7.75-15 bias ply blackwalls that were original equipment for these trucks? Someone might, but I'm not aware of who.

But everyone reproduces 7.60-15's, 8.00-15's and 8.20-15's because these were also used on Passenger Cars.

16" wheels can be found in both innies and outies, but lotsa luck finding any 17.5" wheels that were installed thru 1966 only. These wheels are almost as hard to find as Jimmy Hoffa, and...

You do not want these wheels (which fit both 2WD/4WD), you wanna know why? Where are you going to find tires for them?

And, due to clearance issues, these wheels MUST be used with the 4WD/F350 fenders that have a 45" radius.

Your 2WD truck fenders have a 36" radius. Peeps looking for the 4WD fenders, aren't finding many without major rust issues.

There are SIX rust free left sides located here in a LA LA Land truck dismantlers wrecking yard. But, a greedy SOB bought all the right sides, after I posted the info who had them.

I think I get it now

Oh ok, I think I get it now. Although the original 1965/66 F100 tire sizes w/15" wheels: 7.00-15, 7.10-15 & 7.75-15, no one reproduces them any more, so the best option (or the closest to factory) are the 7:60 x 15, 8:00 x 15, 8:20-15.

Now I'm not sure about that because Coker tire makes 7.00-15, 7.10-15 & 7.75-15 tires. See links below:

7.00 - 15: Search results for: '700-15'

7.10 - 15: Search results for: '710-15'

7.75 - 15: Search results for: '775-15'

Again, not trying to "stump the band" because it's clear you have this parts thing down, but did you not know about Coker selling the 7.00-15, 7.10-15 & 7.75-15, or again, am I missing something?

Are these hub cab factory originals?

Also, below is a picture of my 15" wheels and a hubcap option that I have. Is this hub cap a factory option for 1965?

C4AZ-1130-A .. 'Outie' Stainless Steel Hubcap / Standard equipment: 1965/66 Custom Cabs w/outie wheels.

EXACT SAME hubcap used on 1964 Galaxies.

btw: I may have the parts thing down, but tires aren't Ford parts. The last time I was looking for 7.75-15's, no one was reproducing them.

You are lucky to have found that hubcap. Very hard to come by. The Galixe caps are smaller, but the same look.
I have one hub cap in my possesion. I need 3 more if anyone is looking to sell!!

1965/66 F100 Custom Cabs with "outie" wheels use the exact same hubcaps as 1964 Galaxies.

The "outie" 1964 Galaxie & 1965/66 F100 stainless steel hubcap (C4AZ-1130-A) is 10 1/4" O/A diameter.

The "innie" F100 stainless steel "bottlecap" hubcap (C3TZ-1130-A) is 9 1/2" O/A diameter.

1965/66 F100 Standard Cabs with "outie" wheels use painted versions of the Galaxie hubcap.

One type is painted white with white FORD letters on a red background / The other type is painted argent with argent FORD letters on a red background.

Maybe yes, maybe no. The wheels could have been painted white or black.

My new '65 F100 Wimbledon White Standard Cab came with white wheels, white bottlecap hubcaps.

Within days after buying it, I painted the wheels black, removed the bottlecaps, installed full wheel covers from a 1952 Packard with cloisonne emblems.

Same color as my truck. my rims are biege. I had one original tucked underneth the truck. I bought 4 more and had them powder coated white.

I have outies. So the 64 galexie hubs will work? I had the 2 caps together and the galexie caps were small. guy told me they won't work on my rims.. I must be confused.

Do the caps you have look like this? If so, they are correct. Guy doesn't know diddly squat.

FTE member CustomCab has a black F100 pictured in his photo gallery with these same exact hubcaps on it. Take a look-see

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Text Section 12, page 1 shows this same hubcap. Tell "guy" that doesn't know diddly squat to take a look-see.

IF your 'outie' wheels are not original to the truck, these caps may not fit. If they are original, they will.

I've owned THIRTY 1962/64 Galaxies, all the hubcaps used on these cars will fit 1965/66 F100's with outie wheels.

Outie = So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the OUTSIDE of the wheels center section.

Innie = So called because the hubcap snaps onto tabs located WITHIN the center section of the wheel.

1961/66 F100's with innie wheels use a hubcap that is 9 1/2" O/A diameter.
