I FINALLY did it! I love it too... I can actually hear the turbo from the FRONT of the truck just at a casual cruise (I still have to listen hard, though). I had some 4" pipe left over from when I cut the tail pipe so I could put the tip on. I just cut a 4" piece, cleaned up the edges, and stuck it on in the CarQuest parking lot (I had to get a hose clamp... I SWORE I had one, but I didn't... I wish I had gotten one from Clay!). I'm sure you guys have seen this a million time, but I'll post it anyways. Just a quick note: the early '99's are nice when it comes to this because the battery tray and filter assembly are separate. All I had to do was unbolt it!
The box (note the tape) and hose clamp, ready to go:
The filter:

Filter box removed (yeah, I know it's dirty... I'll clean it one of these days):
FILTER IN!!!
Now, time to get a cover from Pete... I still can't decide which one I like/want. My truck is a bit worn (note seats), but it's still clean. The inner fender was dirty because I've never been under there until now. The motor is almost grease free because I got tired of looking like a grease rag every time I just stuck my hand in there. When money permits, it'll have new seats, wheels/tires, and paint.
Whenever I let off the peddle, I hear an air rush, but I've read that's normal for a 6637. It seems to have more kick in the tail, but I have yet to REALLY try it out. I have to go and log some stuff with AE so I'll do it then (I was having IPR issues). I like it... the truck seems to roar a bit more. I never would've thought a filter would make as much of a difference. Also, I could just be imagining things, but it almost seems to spool up faster as well. Whenever I can get around to adjusting the turbo so that the wastegate will open at 20PSI, I think that will improve ALOT. My goal is to get it to open at 20PSI so that I'll get quicker spool-ups, but the boost will be below the point where the PCM de-fuels the truck. But back to topic: yeah, I love it. It's worth the $30 to me (Clay's got the best price on these things)... I have to see how my next 0 to 60 goes. I can also hear the compressor-side of the turbo while just casually cruising (60MPH) whereas I couldn't before. I have an e99 so I have the wicked wheel. The turbo screams even louder than before... it's kinda cool. I'm driving and as I work the pedal for ups and downs in the road, I can hear the turbo spool up and down. It's almost as good as the Cat in my Dad's Kenworth! Now, if I could get injectors and a turbo with a bigger wheel, I can't imagine what it'd sound like then. but for now, I'm happy. Now I need to get a cover from Pete...
Sorry for the winded post... I'm really happy with it as well as most of the other mods I've done. The only thing I wish I had left alone was instead of cutting the quick-disconnects on the vacuum-side of the fuel line, I wish I just would've replaced that whole branch with a piece of hose instead. Whenever I mod my truck, my goal is to do it so that I could put it all back together the way I got it. That way, I can put it into my next truck! Let me know if there's any other pictures you want or questions... this has got to be one of the easiest mods/fixes I've done to my truck to date so I doubt either are necessary.. I did it in the CarQuest parking lot in under fifteen minutes (I already had the 4" pipe made)... I wanted to try it out on the way home!
Very Cool, Glad you like it. I agree with the SOP feel, and I can not tell you why, I believe that this and the 4" exhaust were the only to mods that actually increased MPG, although slightly. I had to do the WW and foil delete to get the same sound you are now enjoying..
Yeah... I do. I'm gonna update my PCM in my truck to the PMT-1 so I can run the tests on AE that my e99 PCM won't support (I just got my hands on a Ford-enhanced version of AE from Clay and he said I need to upgrade my PCM so I can run some special injector tests). When I go pick a truck for that part, I'll grab the IDM while I'm in there as well. That way, I'll have an IDM for spare... I'll also have another IDM to use in case I don't like how touchy it is, especially if I get a DP-Tuner. But yeah, I've got your envelope sitting in my glove box right now, Jay. I really appreciate you sending it to me!
good job on the install and glad to hear you like it. i went with the petes cover with the riff raff logo so any time i open the hood for others i give props to clay. now i just need to get some stickers ordered for the back glass.
Total new guy question- I think the 2000 7.3 stock takes air from the grill into the filter box, right? So, the 6637 draws air right from the engine compartment? And, the RiffRaff bag must be breathable, then right? Yeah, seems obvious but...
