Need some help with wiper motor wiring.

I am trying to bench test the wiper motor assembly from my 56 F600
to see if it works. There are three wires going into the gear motor
cover. They are black, red, and green. I assume one of them is
ground and the other two are for the high and low speed. But I can't
get it to run and believe there is something I don't know or am missing.
I looked at the main wirimg diagram in the shop manual, but could
not find the info. In the accessories section it only told me the
colors and guage of the wires. If anyone can explain how the wiring
functions I would appreciate it.

They usually require a ground to the body of the motor too..
the one I am using does.. (just had to pull it out again cause I apparently didn't set that ground very well..)..

The motor should be grounded throught the case. One wire is low speed, one wire is high speed and one wire is for the parking position.

If you ground the case, and secure the thing in a vise - cause it's gonna jump, you should be able to touch two of the three wires with power and it should run.

Question, do you have the switch, was it hooked up and do you remember what color went where? The tabs on the switch are labeled. P= Parking; B= your power into the switch; A= normal speed; and F= Fast speed.

Yes, I do have the switch. I will look at it tonight. I do know from a previous glance that the switch also has a yellow wire. I assumed that was
the incoming 12v (B) to the switch. A little confused by your comment of touching two wires to make it run. I understand the fast/slow wires, but how does the parking wire function?

Ground the case with the negative post on the battery, then touch each wire individually with a lead from the positive post - when touched, on two of those three wires, the motor should run.

There have been a couple of really good threads on the "Parking" function.

Rather than re type, I'll let you read throught them.

Got it tested. After getting the motor running, I scabbed the switch back into the wiring to check it. Found out it was intermittent. Wiggling and twisting on the switch I coud make it perform all functions. Now on to cleaning it up and refurbing.

Super! Glad that worked out!

That switch may just have "glazed" contacts inside that need some scuffing up. Just twist it on and off a number of times to "scrape" the points. (or they could be worn down too)
