Incentives is what Ford has been doing and is going to do even more. Even with the incentives, the story says GM has lots to work with. GM has no incentives on the HD's yet.

I just had a conversation with a friend in North Carolina that has a truck just like mine except it's a Chevrolet and it's a long bed.
He said he runs Dodge Cummins stock and in the 1/4 mile they are gone. He also told me not to be concerned with the PSD. It's a little faster but isn't nearly fast enough. I'm not really into racing my truck. I don't really care if it's faster than somebody elses. I like the power for my own enjoyment and use. I test drove a Dodge Cummins... what a slug. I couldn't stand having to pull out into traffic with that thing. That's what I mean, I don't really care about beating someone else, I just like the juice.

It does feel good though to drive the fastest and most powerful diesel of the big three. Now I know what it's like to be No.1. Oh-oh, am I getting hypocritical here?

Chips are coming out as we speak. One has a dial.... 20-80 hp gain just by turning a dial. Love the new technology.

BTW: You can't be misled by the people doing the short test drives. These trucks need to be driven for a few thousand miles before they are at optimum performance. The Allison takes a good while to "learn" shifting properly. This is no bull. Everybody that has them has commented on how they run and shift better as they put more miles on them.

Any V8??? Road and Track in the past has put the F-150 Lightning against the Chevy s-10 extreme, the dodge 5.9 R/T, the BMW SUV (whatever the heck it's called), the Dodge SST, the Dodge Dakota Shelby, and even a new Chevy Corvette. The Lightning killed all the competition with the exception of the Camaro...it was something like 3 10ths behing it. I've never heard of any other truck coming close to that. And is that even a fair match anyways? A little lightwieght race car against a heavier truck? And to think you guys almost lost it all..another 3 10ths of a second......hehe

Love the flame. I respect all of the Big Three. They all have their good points. The difference is now it's a little harder to put any one way ahead of the other.

I respect firemen. My brother was a hose head for years. I am a little distressed to see what has happened to our local FD's in recent years. It's not like it used to be. They let the kids hang out and screw around with their chicks, no one is in command like they used to be. A Chief told my brother they can't get volunteers so they let them do what they want just to keep them. Trucks aren't taken care of. Buildings are dirty. Ladies auxiliary's are dissapearing. Around here they are talking of paid crews. At least to drive the trucks.

(Added on edit) As soon as I left this web site I went to look at my local news. Wouldn't you know there was a story talking about paid firefighters increasing in our area ....

pokin fun at children? i think u are just a child, coming and talkin about how good your chevy is and how bad VFD's suck, i don't know about you but where we are from we don't have the resources for a fully paid FD, and we have about half a dozen VFD's for our county, and 90% of our FD's are just as good if not better than the paid Fd's and talkin about being able to drive 60,000$ trucks, take the road test you took when you got your liscence and increased the difficulty by about 300% and do it once a year in $60,000 trucks and you can get to where you can drive them pretty good, the VFD that covers my part of the county and you know what? it's the largest. U know what? all our trucks except 2 are fords/internationals, and those are dodge. And you know what? they have the best response time of all of them, so get back to trucks and don't be down talkin the Volunteer Firefighters on here or you will make more enemies than you have friends(but that won't be too hard because i'm sure you've made 1 enemy so that doubles the friends that you have don't it?)

Ford is now number two. I know you can't seem to swallow that but as the year progresses you will notice something different about Ford's truck advertising bungo. They will no longer be claiming number one in sales.

and don't tell me VF's are better than real paid firemen. what do you have to do to become a VF. be voted in by the rest of the VF's? when i was younger, some of the other guys i smoked and drank with joined as VF's. in other words, any idiot can join as long as they were voted in. no drug tests, no alochol tests, no nothing but a simple vote. so don't give me this crap about how good or better VF's are over real paid firemen. their just a bunch of guys who get off on having lights and sirens on the vehicles. and as for the driving test, well lets just say there are a bunch of people who drive semi's that shouldn't be. i've seen the tests, and their not that difficult.

hotrod 88, tell me what it takes to be a VF. as i said above, any idiot can be voted in. i've seen you guys in action, kinda reminded me of a stooges show. only there was no moe, just a bunch of curly's. again, just a bunch who get off on lights and sirens. your the perfect example, that light bar on your roof, don't you think thats a little excessive, wouldn't a little dash light work? no, you want everyone to think your important, as with the rest of em. i bet you go out in the woods at night and turn on those lights and just sit and watch em.


and as far as talking trucks, it looks and sounds like arguing to me. so what if the guy likes and drives a chevy. it looks like a nice truck, i bet half the people in here arguing with him would drive on if they could afford it. and don't get me wrong, i bleed ford blue, it just doesn't make sense to argue over a new truck. their all about the same.

It all started long ago when GM bought 49% of Isuzu.
A few years back when GM decided it was time to put in a diesel that could compete with International Harvester and Cummins.

GM no longer owns Detroit Diesel, who designed the 6.2/6.5TD.
GM talked to Catepillar. Engine was too heavy.
GM talked to Isuzu. Made the decision.

Isuzu designed the engine. The prototypes were built in Japan.
DMAX LTD Co. was formed.
Plant built in Moraine, Ohio
DMAX LTD is manned by former GM employees.

To answer your question specifically, it is basically an Isuzu engine. There is even a label on my valvecover that says so.

Isuzu makes some of the most dependable, durable diesels on the market. It is a smooth running and quite engine.

Would I rather have had an American designed diesel. I guess so. As long as it was the best!

Okay, Well dosen't it stand to reason that GM truck sales might be up for awhile,while all the people who just have to have a GM diesel truck are getting one since it's the first time since the mid 70s that the general has made one that was fit for you all to own.(by gm lovers standards anyway)I'm sure there is a pent up demand for such a thing since obviously you couldn't wait to say lookie here what I finally got. Trouble is you got that long term ownership to dread. I bet when those boys drove that gas engine turned diesel morphodite the general sold em in the 70s off the lot they were as proud as you are now. Come back and see us in a few years when you have 150+ thousand miles on that bad boy and show us a picture too. GM trucks still come standard with bad paint and just waiting to rust out.

Well for one thing, not everyone can be voted in. Hence the reason you are not a volunteer firefighter. Mainly, you ned to grow up, and realize that everything in life isn't about hanging with your little groupies, smoking & drinking a six pack or three.

Second, when you get the courage to risk your life to protect someone elses then you might have something credible to bring to the table, otherwise you're just another of the losers who wishes he had the courage to do that.

Third, since you decide to insult the 1 million volunteer firefighters in this country, (I bet there's even some in your area) maybe you'll realize that there are people who give of themselves to help others. You'll never see that fact becuse people like you & clacker are to busy showing everyone else how much better you are than they.

In short, there's a place for people like you. I'm just happy to know that I won't be there to see you & your kind trying to find ways to beat the heat.

hey Clatter, i know your dream will be short lived, wow 1 quarter! still ford is and has been THE best selling truck for over the PAST 15 YEARS. even if chevy can win for 1 year (wow)big deal, they could not or even dream of walking in the steps of ford, let alone take over sales.. it is projected that ford will be the number #1 auto maker by the year 2005..
