Honestly you need to find an older tried and true warhorse like a 15 or 16 F-450 with a 6.7 and the 6R140 if you're going to be towing that kind of weight around regularly. Or a 15-18 3500 Ram with the Cummins/Aisin. I would let them put the new transmission in and trade it in. Those newer 10 speeds don't sit right with me yet. The fact that they keep updating the software to change how they run tells us they really haven't gotten these nailed down yet. There is a reason Allison doesn't build these for the GM vehicles and why they specifically dont put them in the 4500-6500 medium duty GM trucks.

I have a junk removal/hauling business so I tow a dump trailer regularly, average weight is 5k-14000k. first it started out as a slight slipping feeling from 1st-2nd gear. then it started getting real jumpy while towing mainly in 1-2nd gear only. took it in to the dealer. after the back and forth (we cant duplicate the issue) I was able to make it down there and replicate the issue over and over. long story short after (software update, relearning the tranny, and "accelerated clutch pack break in"). all smoking mirrors. come to find out it needs a new transmission. this is a super let down because I use this truck for my business I'm a small business as well so I need this truck. I'm paying 860.00 a month for a truck that's been in the shop for almost 2 weeks now. plus my business is at a stand still. they said they are going to get a new transmission and I could pick the truck up and drive it until the trans comes in for replacement. how ever I don't want the thing to blow up while I'm trying to tow my trailer with a hug load in it. what do yall think i should do?
Bought my 2024 about a month and a half ago. On my second drive (first drive since bringing it home from dealership) I was going 75mph on the interstate and it suddenly slammed from 10th to 3rd gear, and would go no faster than 25 mph. Went from 75mph to 25mph like I pulled the parachute. Lost reverse also. This happened at 165 miles. ONE HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE. Hadn’t even put a hitch yet on it yet, lol. Ford put a new transmission and it has been fine so far. Sad to hear I’m not the only one.

Willynilly, No. Zero tire lock up. It definitely over revved but didn’t “spike”. It was synchronized, like I was downshifting hard. Got little info from the dealership, other than it was a common issue (?) and that they found metal in the transmission (I’m sure, lol).

Ford is buying back this truck

Ford is buying back this trash 2024 6.8l from me. After 5 months of fighting back and forth I hand her in jan 9th. The truck got a new transmission they did all kind of weird **** to the suspension nothing fixed the "shifting" hesitation issue i was having. I ended up buying a 7.3l godzilla and havnt had any issues.

Good news. I believe the 10R140 to be a good transmission and I've had zero issues with the two I have......I'm certainly not interested in going backwards to a 6R140 or Aisin ever.....I have no firm conclusions on the 10R100 but so far it looks like my next work truck will be another 7.3 so I get the 10R140...

I haven't had any mechanical issues with mine so far, hopefully I never do. I don't know if it's a Ford thing or not, but the trans. temp gets up to 220° while plowing. It actually got that hot while just driving on the highway this past summer. Should I be concerned?

Normal operating temp is up to 220F or thereabouts, although it will run cooler sometimes. That plow will block a lot of that cooling air, however, so just keep your eye on it when you are pushing snow. Been there, done that.

My 2023 cycles between 210 and 220 summer driving unloaded and pulling our 7k travel trailer, on the flats and in the mountains. Seems to be the nature of the beast.

I lower the plow while driving to get better air flow to the radiator. I did the same thing with my Ram.

ETA; it gets hot while actually plowing, even while plowing small amounts of light fluffy snow for really short periods of time. Once I start driving between plow sites/areas, it cools back down.

Well, backing up across a parking lot doesn't introduce a lot of cooling air to the radiator...

If memory serves, the trans cooler is actually under the truck... not in the radiator area, so without airflow over it, it would tend to heat up, and particularly in severe service... like snow plowing... where you are not going very fast, anyway, but you are operating under a load.

I plow driveways. I backup for about 10 seconds at a time. My previous truck's trans. temp were between 168° to 172° for normal driving. And in the mid 150°'s while plowing.

We used to do hotel lots (a real pain...) and other retail locations. Sometimes we went faster in reverse than we did in forward.

Most of my driveways are about 100' long. Pull in, drop the plow, back out, stack the snow in the front lawn and of to the next one. My trans. temp in my Ram would get lower while I was plowing.
