I was wondering if anyone has tried the oil filteration system from Diesel Power Products. The info that I recieved says it is like changing the oil every 2 to 4 hours with this system. It removes particals to 3 microns, heats the oil to remove liquid contaminants. This sounds too good to be true. I purchased there 3 pod gauge setup for my diesel a couple years ago, and am happy with them. I really did not think too much about this until I put 3600 miles on my truck in 9 days. That can get expensive changing oil so often, but this system is not cheap. Any opinions on this product. Thanks, Mark
My opinion is that it depends on how many years you plan to keep the vehicle, and how many miles you plan to run it up to. I know that for the price of these systems you can buy a lot of oil and filter changes. But if you really put on a lot of miles in a short time it could be worth it. I know everyone, myself included, hates Amsoil's selling methods, but I have heard good things about their bypass filtration system. I don't see a need for a heating system on the filter if your doing a lot of miles, the oil will be good and hot anyway. Something simple like the oil-guard filter could be the ticket. See www.oilguard.com.
One more thing. I don't think I would want to use a toilet paper filter. Just can't see that tp would make a good filter. I mean it might filter down to a fine micron level but I'd be afraid of it going to pieces and putting paper in the engine.
Questions before opinion.............
3 microns is much smaller than the tolerances your motor requires. With such tight filtration.....does the oil back up and flow thru the bypass, essentialy not being filtered? I dont know the system. Would it be better to run a nice synthetic Delvac or Rotella T for longer drain intervals.....testing your oil every once in a while?
I would prefer the time tested effective manner over the new way with unproven ability when it comes to that nice expensive diesel power plant.
I like Delvac. My dad the ship captain will use nothing but Rotella T in his diesel plants.
Changing the oil every 3 or 4 hours sounds alot like the Teflon Additive scam to me.
By-pass works by taking only a small amount of the oil flow away from the engine- usually 5-8%. The downside to by-pass filtration is that unless you are using extended oil changes, it isn't worth having. Kinda like carrying four spare tires for hiway driving. If you use an oil designed for extended changes like Amsoil or Delvac 1, it is worth considering. The specs on your particualr filtration system is not much different than the others on the market. Amsoils by-pass system is good, marketing sucks but the system is good. There is also available the FS-2500 which is an alternative. The link is www.fs2500.com Another downside to them is that none have a check valve for the oil pressure should the pressure drop for some reason. Check valves are available and I would recommend one if you are installing one. You also need to be using a primary filter that is designed for extended oil changes as well. Good part is that these systems can be moved from truck to truck so you generally are looking at buying it once- unless you buy a different brand of truck or engine.

I still wouldnt woulnt want to use tiolet paper in my engine
