So I replaced the COPS and plugs yesterday and a few things shocked me. First of all the job was pretty easy and honestly from reading a few threads on here I was really discouraged. I'm confused at why people make it out to be a three hour job, it took me an hour and a half to change out all 8 COPs and plugs and with limited tools. I used a 3/8 ratchet, (3) 3" extensions, (1) 12" wobble extension, spark plug socket, 10 mm socket, magnet pickup tool, degreaser cleaner, needle nose pliers, big adjustable wrench for removal of the EGR tube on driver side, Phillips and flat head screwdrivers
Now the cylinder on the passenger side all the way closest to the firewall was the main problem and when I took out the old spark plug it was so corroded from rust that I barely recognized it, I don't believe it was working at all I think I might have been running on 7 cylinders all this time. Somehow water is getting down in there, can anyone tell me how water is getting in there?. All the COPs that I replaced seemed to be the original Motorcraft COPs and were in really bad shape...jeez. The boots were in terrible condition. The guy I bought the truck from told me they were replaced, that ******* LOL.
My truck does not have a misfire anymore and does not sputter/stutter under acceleration between 40 and 55mph. Runs smoother and gas mileage is a little better. Idle is not jumpy, it's very smooth now
