Follow-up results

I changed my filters today, and I'm certain that I do not have a problem. Other than my own stupidity for not draining the trap. I drained the trap again today and got a few specks of sand. But no sludge. And this time I know it was not knocked off the frame. It was in the trap. But these filters look great, certainly not plugged, and not holding any sludge. The trap is a dead-end, so naturally it will collect some of the bigger stuff that will fall off the filter element. Along with the diesel sludge that is normal, it all collects in the bottom at the plug. Obviously to me, a good reason to open that drain monthly like Ford says.
