Speaking of WWII rifles, I received a very personal gift from a friend of our families that his father brought for him when he was young, an 1891 Mosin Nagant in 7.62x54R. The leather sling is bloodstained and the left side of the stock is worn in one spot consistant with hitting it on the edge of buildings whilst shooting around corners. Some were affixed with scopes and were a mainstay for Russian marksmen and snipers. One Russian sniper that thought very highly of the rifle was Vassili Zaitsev. Here is a quote from him:
"...await the right moment for one, and only one well-aimed shot"
Vassili Zaitsev
I know that these rifles can be had for next to nothing, and aren't rare, but this one is special. I still fire it, and it is still a tack driver with iron sights. I am contemplating using it for deer season this year, for a change of pace.
