I've flown many flags in my day. In fact, I have an Amsoil flag right now that I no longer use. Anybody want it? I have Amsoil tranny fluid in my truck right now that is about to get changed. I have some Amsoi 5w-30 left in the garage that I'll likely use on the mower, tiller, and snowblower this year to use it up. My wife was the original Amsoi flag-waver and I eventually had to succumb or be overrun.

I'm no spring chicken. I've learned through the years that if somebody isn't telling you what you want to know, they may be trying to hide something. Maybe Amsoil has some of this closed-mouth stuff because of proprietary reasons, maybe some of it isn't. Some of their claims make sense, some of them don't. I've decided to move on from Amsoil because I don't believe their spiel enough any more to wave their flag for them.

But, while I've lost my glow for Amsoil, I also know that Ford/Chevy/Dodge/etc. aren't to be trusted either. How can we be sure that their specs for SP are so absolutely stringent that NO other fluid will work? Because they SAID so? Sure, they have your warranty by the short hairs, and who is going to purposely gamble their multi-thousand dollar tranny on a few bucks worth of fluid? But how can we be sure it is as dangerous as they say it is?

Just wonderin' out loud...

(mosying back to my seat now)

I just gave you some +REP for your post also!! It's so good to know that people are figuring Amsoil out!!!

I have been throwing some questions out about ATF, and so far, Mobil has responded:

Matt Jacob 1-800-ASK-MOBIL
"In most cases we have licensed the ATF fluid and/or have worked with each OEM. We really can't comment much about amsoil, but it appears we offer our products in a much different way then they do. Vehicle transmissions cost as much as engines these days, I sure wouldn't use a "one product fits all" transmission fluid in my vehicles."
