Amsoil vs Mobil Product Warranty

Wow... go out of town for 3 days and it takes me a whole night to read all the posts!!!

For the record... I am not here to debate MLM marketing practices and actually am impressed at the "mystic" and following that they have developed and the perception and all of the brand.

With that stated... I want to discuss the questionable marketing, labeling and warrenty practices.

1) Mercon, Mercon V and Mercon SP have three different specifications of viscosity and performance for different tranny applications... yet Amsoil claims they have a fluid that fits all three (which is false, misleading and wrong)!!!

2) They claim that their oils meet certain API standards and only a few are actually API certiifed... but where is the warrenty and assurance that every batch of product has been tested to meet a "known industry standard"... which is what API is. They are a licensing body that allows the use of the "trade mark" to ensure a minimum level of compliance. If you have a problem or need to show proof to Ford... just show your receipt for the purchase of an API used product (as long as it meets Ford's requirements)... and your covered.

3) Warrenty... here it is from Amsoil's website... man... you have to be a "high jumper" to jump through so many hoops!!!

5. In the event of a claim against AMSOIL INC., the procedure below must be completely followed.

3. Claim information is insufficient.

Now here is Mobil's warrenty for Mobil 1 oils...

Mobil 1 Motor Oil Limited Warranty

This is a limited warranty covering the Mobil 1 motor lubricant you purchased. ExxonMobil warrants its lubricants to be free from defects and will replace any Mobil lubricant that is defective. For all vehicles follow the recommended oil change interval in your owner's manual. ExxonMobil warrants that the Mobil 1 lubricant you purchased will protect your vehicle’s critical engine parts from oil related failure. If not, provided the engine was serviceable at the time the oil was installed, Exxon Mobil will have your vehicle repaired and replace the oil at no cost to you.

ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties Company, a division of Exxon Mobil Corporation ("ExxonMobil") provides this limited warranty to the purchasers who use Mobil brand lubricants in their vehicle.

This limited warranty covers the Mobil 1 lubricant and critical engine parts lubricated by the lubricant.

If there is equipment failure related to the Mobil brand lubricant you purchased, ExxonMobil will repair any equipment damage directly caused by a defect or malfunction of a Mobil lubricant, provided that the lubricant was selected and maintained in accordance with specifications of the original equipment manufacturer or the written instructions (which includes product packaging) of ExxonMobil.

To file a claim under this Limited Warranty, you must:

Upon discovery of the damage (but not later than six (6) months from the date the damage occurred) call 1-800-AskMobil.

Allow an ExxonMobil representative to examine the equipment and maintenance records, if available, and provide proof of purchase to determine the extent of the damage and to confirm that a Mobil lubricant was the cause.

Allow an ExxonMobil representative to obtain an oil sample from the engine for oil analysis at no cost to you to assist in determining the cause of the equipment failure.

This Limited Warranty excludes:

Mobil lubricants used in mechanically deficient equipment as a result of abnormal operation; negligence; abuse; damage from casualty, shipment or accident; or, equipment modification done without written authorization from the OEM.

Situations where the OEM required lubricant standards do not match those stated by Mobil without written approval from ExxonMobil.

Mobil lubricants that have been used in conjunction with any other product or additive that has not been authorized for use by ExxonMobil.

Failure of equipment due to a pre-existing condition that is unrelated to the use of Mobil lubricants.

Repair or replacement of equipment due to normal wears.
___________________________________________

Compare the two oil companies warrenty's and Mobil's is easier to utilize a claim against... you have a longer time to file, oil analysis is at their cost (not yours like Amsoil's) and all you have to do for Mobil is make your truck or car available to them for inspection... and you do not need to save your bottles and batch numbers (does Amsoil's product change that much)?

Amsoil makes their warrenty process very hard to follow to the letter (if not... denied)!!! Mobil Oil is pretty straight forward and consistent with most company warrenty programs.

So with that... I am sure Amsoil is a good oil, but for the same money (and maybe less), you can get an oil or lubricant that is API certified and a warrenty that is easier to utilize if need be!!!

It's not about if Amsoil is good or bad... it is about questionable specs for their tranny fluid, non API for consistency and a warrenty program that makes you be a "high-jumper" to get over so many hurdles!!!

Lets compare facts as I have done and not worry about MLM issues or beliefs... because again... I do not carry how they sell their products, but rather the performance, costs, warrenty and industry standards for a consistent product!!!!
